Coolness!

So now I guess my next question is...

What is the best way to get wrinkles out of electrostatically flocked parachute silk?

Hang it in a steamy shower room?

I realized I never really explained how the cape "works." It's not as straightforward as most capes.

There are 4 grommets (2 on each side). So you fold the cape over so the 2 grommets closest to each other meet back to back. These become your 2 connection points on the chest. In the case of Begins a bolt goes through each set of grommets and the cape clips keep the cape in place. In the case of TDK each set of grommets is pulled behind the L shaped carbon fibre collar pieces. Then how it connects inside is up to you. Elastic through the grommets onto a button glued inside the chest works. For my UDReplicas suit I will thread a strip of velcro through the grommets and attach it to velcro I am having installed inside the jacket.

Anyway once installed all the "excess" material at the back of the neck should just hang under the rest of the cape and create that V shape on its own.

Hope that helps a little. Makes more sense when you are looking at it. There is a certain logic to it and so long as you let the cape drape so it creates that V shape at the back of the neck, you have the correct look. :wink

I'll try and snap some pics when I have time as well.

Kev,
Got the cape yesterday :up brother!

Totally worth the wait. I'm glad to get in on the bottom floor of projects like this with well respected members that have been around for a while; ones like you where you don't have to question your integrity because it's already established so the wait time is for perfection, not procrastination or BS excuses.

QUESTION: So you're going with the Velcro attachment under the L portion?

Did you scrap the earth magnets idea?

I guess putting the cape under the L portion does look good and seems to be the only place to legitimately put it, I'm still stuck on

1. making that big cut and
2. what method to use for attachment

Decisions, decisions :huh :huh

That's great, Sean!

I have abandoned the earth magnet method. I think it's overcomplicated and getting a solid hold through that leather and carbon fibre is challenging. I do encourage others to keep working at it if they think they can get it to work though.

I am having a tailor make the big cut and I should be picking it up today. It was a little nerve racking leaving it but I explained myself 3 times, gave my phone number for any questions, and punched him in the face for just a taste of what was to come if he ruined it. :batman :lol

For those not wanting to make the cut my suggestion is still to use a loop of Velcro but stick it to the chest piece instead. I think Indakin does this and there's nothing wrong with it. Looks great.

And for Velcro I got the long skinny cable tie ones at the $1 store. Let you know tomorrow how it works. :wink

JEEEEEEZ! I got mine in the mail today, and I'm really quite stunned. A really amazing cape, and yes, quite complicated. I can definitely see why this cape is hard to duplicate based on screen caps and photos. There's a lot going on in there.

REALLY impressed with the quality of the assembly, and especially the fabric itself. Tragically lightweight, and really full looking. Awesome work, sir!

Bummer is, this means I ACTUALLY need to hunker down and assemble my TDK suit!! Thanks again for making this possible, and for all the hard work, research, and effort you put into it.

Just got mine this afternoon as well. I haven't taken it out and unwrapped yet, as I fear getting white cat hairs on it -- so I'll wait until I can open it safely at my parents house later this week.

But I did get a good feel of the material, and it's even more awesome than I could have imagined. Such brilliant material, and totally worth the long wait!

Thanks again, Kevin, for putting this project together. Really excited to see how this looks on other brothers with their UDR suits and hopefully some Begins suits too. I think this will give me a good reason to finish a few tweaks on my Begins and wear it again soon.

 :cheers
