Amazing to think the first castings might have been paired on a mannequin like this in 1988!

Look at how different the ear lengths look in different shots, even with the same camera, lens, and lighting.

Yup!
I always felt the same about this particular sculpt. It's beautiful.
Some shots, the ears look long and strong, while some, small and wide, depending on the light source and angle.
There are two main points which create the illusion. 1. The top part of the head is as we can see, domed. Where the ears begin on the inside, the dome sits the lowest, which helps give an illusion of longer ears. Looking at it from the profile side, depending on the lighting, the ears can look short because the top part of the head is still higher then where the ears begin. So the height makes the ears look short. Again, depending how the light source works on the surface of the cowl.

2. The slopes on the ears that travel down from the sides of the head also help create the long ear illusion and depending on the lighting, can also aid in the same illusion from the profile shots.

The strange variations in this sculpt is what keeps me addicted to it. It's quite random but then it's not... like it was all meant to come together that way on purpose.
Again, beautiful. :cheers

Wow, you're right. That must be why people think there were multiple cowls with different length ears.
