I agree. However, Batman did kill in the earlier comics. :wink

Hmmmm a most interesting thread! The comics is where Batman began and learned about him, the man, and the dark knight. The movies are great visuals, but the one with the most depth is Batman Begins to me. Loved the '89 movie, and liked the side of him when he interacted with Catwoman in the 2nd movie....both mediums work together to help create Batman for us.

Janty,

wasn't the killing in the early comics a vampire? Maybe I have my numbers crossed or somethin, but I thought it was a gun with a silver bullet(or something similar to that effect). I could be wrong, as we all have to be sometimes. If it was the situation I was thinking of I wouldn't necessarily consider it killing. If you've got the issue number, I would love to know the number. I have the first 630 some odd Batman comics on CD, or was it in Detective comics?

Hehehe, I've not seen the fourth film, and dont have any plans to. The third film solidified that choice. My first exposure was the comics, and they captured my imagination. When the 89' movie came out I was captivated again, mostly because of the suit. Some of the story and most of the visuals were excellent. But I think that Burton borrowed too much from the TV show, especially towards the end of the film. But I still loved the movie and the second was ok imo but also kinda "campy". But Begins, ahh.. There was, in my opinion the movie that most captured the true Batman as he is portrayed in the comics.Read HUSH if you don't believe me!But I have to say that I'm a fan(atic) and that means both the comics and the films(most of them anyway) :batfly :flapbat BTW Jants, are you sure Burt Ward doesnt frighten you? He does me- :rollin

Can anyone reccomend a good Batman comic? I never read them as a kid, I was into hockey cards, and Lego. emoticon

You'll probably want to pick up graphic novels, I'd suggest:

Hush
War Drums, Games, and Crimes
No Man's Land
Knightfall

Those are some of the more popular ones. The current Superman/Batman comics are a good read and the first 18 or so are available in TPB form. I think hush is an easier way for some newer comic fans to see the depth that batman has without having to swim throuh over 60 years of history.

Comic, no contest. But I love BTAS about as much as the comics, along with the League cartoons. To me they are just as valid as the comic stories since they manage to portray him like the comics do. I think we can all agree that any Batman in the movies has been a far cry from the Batman of the comics.

Gotta agree there. The comics are where you get the real depth of the character. A 2 hour movie just isn't quite enough to really get a handle on the character. That's why I like the animated stuff as well or even better than the comics. The only drawback to the comics is needing to do a reinvent every 7 years or so (Which is the turnaround time for the average generation of reader, or so the marketing pinheads say) Movies are great eye candy, and comics got the history and story depth, but give me the cartoons every time!

Agree completely on the animated stuff. Epilogue anyone? ;) Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, you can't go wrong. You just can't.
