 A WARNING PLEASE READ !!

TO MY FRIENDS PLEASE READ, ESPECIALLY PARENTS

McDonalds, Chuck E Cheese, Discovery Zone.... Some of you might not be
parents, but you may have nieces, nephews, grandchildren or friends with
children. This will pertain to you too. As I read the following, my heart
sank. I urge each and every one of you to pass this on to as many people
as you can. I cannot stress how important this is! This is very
disturbing news. In addition to the following true story, I will also add
that my own sons were playing in the ball pit at Chuckee Cheese one day.

One son lost his watch, and was very upset.. We dug and dug in those
balls, trying to find the watch.

Instead, we found vomit, food, feces, and other stuff I do not want to
discuss. I went to the manager and raised hell. Come to find out, the
ball pit is only cleaned out once a month. I have doubts that it is even
done that often. My kids will never play in another ball pit. Now read
this:

> > >> PRETTY SCARY!!

Hi. My name is Lauren Archer, my son Kevin and I lived in Midland,TN. On
October 2nd, 1999 I took my only son to McDonald's for his 3rd birthday.
After he finished lunch, I allowed him to play in the ball pit. When he
started whining later on, I asked him what was wrong, he pointed to the
back of his pull-up and simply said "Mommy, it hurts." I couldn't find
anything wrong with him at that time. I bathed him when we got home, and
it was at that point when I found a welt on his left buttock. Upon
investigating, it seemed as if there was something like a splinter under
the welt. I made an appointment to see the doctor the next day, but soon
he started vomiting and shaking, then his eyes rolled back into his head.
From there, we went to the emergency room. He died later that night. It
turned out that the welt on his buttock was the tip of a hypodermic
needle that had broken off inside. The autopsy revealed that Kevin had
died from a heroine overdose. The next week, the police removed the balls
from the ball pit. There was rotten food, several hypodermic needles:
some full, some used; knives, half-eaten candy, diapers, feces, and the
stench of urine.

If a child is not safe in a child's play area then where? You can find
the article on Kevin Archer in the October 10,1999 issue of the Midland
Chronicle.

Please forward this to all loving mothers, fathers and anyone who loves
and cares for children!

Don't think it's just McDonald's either or that this is something that
just started. When my oldest son who is now 9 was small the area Burger
King closed their play area for awhile for "remodeling" because in
another town there had been an incident similar to the one described
above that happen @ a Burger King. A little boy had been playing in a
ball pit & started complaining of his legs hurting. He later died too. He
was found to have snake bites all over his legs & buttocks. When they
cleaned the ball pit they found that there was a copperhead nest in the
ball pit. He had suffered numerous bites from a very poisonous snake. I
wouldn't let my son play in the ball pit after that. I was lucky even
though that wasn't at our Burger King or McDonald's it could have been. I
still have my son. Please send this on so that it doesn't happen to
someone you know.

Sent it to everyone again received note that 2 did not receive it, to
important not to send twice. If you have received it before sorry.

Re: A WARNING PLEASE READ !!

My daughter was born in '97 and that's around the time when a lot of fast food places started putting up those playgrounds with the ball pits in them. Maybe it was a little earlier than that, but it was at least still a fairly new thing at places like McDonald's. We heard about some of the scary stuff that you find int them, but also heard that it was all mostly rumors.

The great and main thing about these ball pits, is the fact that they just don't ever fu*king clean them. They remove the balls every now and then and vaccum the bottom of it, but that's only somehting like once or twice a year.

It's the balls that the kids touch, throw, get against their faces while rolling in them and depending on the age of the kid, sometimes put the balls in their mouths.

YUCK!

These balls just do NOT EVER get washed!

The child play areas you see at Ikea furniture stores look pretty clean and they kinda' need to make sure that they stay pretty clean, but I"ve never been in there, because it's for kid's only.

There does happen to be ball pits that are outside, that I've seen, where the base and walls of the ball pit are basically a huge freakin' hammock, that the kids go out and roll in. The entire thing is held together by thick netting, so everything's soft and fully exposed to the elements... Which includes rain. That rain cleans them off. The biggest one I've ever seen is in Lake Compounce amusement park, here in Connecticut, but I've aslo see some great ones at Six Flags parks too.

The bigger amusement park ones, are the only ones we let our kids play in, because they're usually associated with or at least right next to the water park area, where the balls are typically soakin wet anyway, from all the wet kids rolling in them from the water in the pools or slides.

Usually there's an outside company that comes in to clean the entire play area, at fast food restaurants, rather than have the workers at that fast food place do it for them. But I've never seen one of those play areas being cleaned.

My kids don't go to the fast food ones. We can't be total assh*les to them though, which is why we allow them to play in the ones at the amusement parks. Somehow, to me anyway, I feel that there's more care given to things like that, than at your local heart attack restaurant.

When I was really little, I'd get sick all the time. There was a period where I would get well, then sick... then well, then sick. I was about. This went on for a while and the doctors couldn't understand why I kept this pattern up. Man, I'd run 103degree fevers and have tons of flu symptoms. There were a few times I had pneumonia.

Finally one night, we were at Showbiz Pizza (aka ChukyCheese’s) and my Dad was talking to one of the employees. She was depressed because it was time for the monthly cleaning of the ball pit. This is where he found out about the urine and feces. From that point on, I was never allowed in the ball pit again and I quit getting sick.

I don't let my kids play in the ball pens and I try and make it up to them by allowing them to play with other kid friendly equipment.

I guess I can tend to be overly protective of my kids and I hope I'm not taking too much away from them being kids.

In my microbiology class, we did swabs of a variety of surfaces at different places around town, then grew cultures to see what kind of nasties were lurking where. The ones from the ball pits of 2 fast-food play areas were disgusting!, about the same as a porta john.
BTW, the worst part of a public restroom? toilrt seat? NO. Floor? NO. Door handle on your way out? Yep!

So, keep your kids out of them nasty ball pits, wash your hands, and use the paper towel to let yourself out when you're done!

And whenever possible, push open a door with a closed fist, instead of your open hand.

I do that all the time it's to nasty to push a public door open with an open hand besides it's cool to open a door with your fist
