Re: Superman Returns! An Enlightening review!

I too felt let down. It seemed like the movie was building to a climactic scene like most movies do and then it just kind of meandered off in to 'who knows what'. The ending was coming with all the usual flying of Superman and I kept thinking "This can NOT be over!". It not only didn't wrap anything up but just went off on a tangent for no reason. Maybe I'm just simple minded but I need a resolution to the story and not just a random ending. I would compare it to if the Lord of the Rings had ended with everyone just going their separate ways to do trivial stuff before getting rid of the ring. It felt like that to me. I sat through the credits hoping that their would be some other scene that helped me make sense of this movie but there wasn't. I put ALL my disagreements with the trivial stuff aside before seeing this movie and just wanted to enjoy the show for the story and special effects. After seeing it, I want my money back. I wasted 2 1/2 hours. I don't know where Brian went wrong but he did in my book.

I'm not trying to change anyones opinion or argue about the movie but I just had to unload how I felt somewhere. I hope everyone enjoys this and hope that maybe after it comes out on dvd that I'll watch it again and realize that I just had a bad night. I hope...

My friend and I went to this. I went with an open mind. My friend is the superman nut, he fell a sleep during the movie and I had to wake him up. The movie wasn't that good in my opion. Can anyone say Stalker! Also isn't batman the brooding one?

AMEN TO THAT!!!!

Anywho, I liked the movie quite well. I liked it even better the second time. I might like it even better the third time in imax 3-d. Bottom line, I thought it was a very well done movie. I thought everyone played their parts very well, and Kevin Spacey could kick Gene Hackman's ass... The people who wanna complain about Lex being funny need to go back to Richard Donner's movie and complain about that.

:lol I complain about that Lex too. :)

The Lex on Smallville, played by Rosenbaum has got the actual character and personality of Lex Luthor down to perfection.

THAT'S what Lex Luthor is like. He's not silly. Lex Luthor wakes up, conducts his days and goes to sleep in a very serious mood. Rarely does he show his glee in something, unless it's after he gets his way.

And he usually gets his way, because someone else has had to sacrifice something.

I finally got to see it. I enjoyed it very much and loved the obvious Christopher Reeves moments from the credits to the end. I am not as a big of a Superman fan as I am Batman so I didn't have a lot of expectations other than to be entertained and I was.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kevin Spacey's performance as Lex Luthor. I felt like he was sinister and serious, but with brief moments of being funny, not to be silly but because of his larger-than-life charisma.

The one part where he yells at Lois and her kid really reminds me of the Smallville episode where Lex is split into good and evil sides by black kryponite. The dark lex in that episode was just as diabolical and charismatic as Kevin Spacey's Luthor.

I'm still surprised this movie has only made back half its costs. Hopefully the holiday long weekend will improve things.

I want to see the film to well because I want to see more of them made, but I'm hoping for a less nostalgia going forward.

Spacey's a fine actor for Luthor, but his scheme is every bit as ridiculous and poorly conceived as that of Hackman's Lex. They could have given the character real depth, but opted for the two-dimensional stereotypical bad guy instead.

Re: Superman Returns! An Enlightening review!

If you think about it, it's basically a retelling of Superman: The Movie. Here are some points:

1. Superman makes a big appearance by saving Lois Lane and a falling aircraft. Superman gives a line about flying being the "safest way to travel, " he flies away, and Lois faints after the incident. Just like in Superman: The Movie....

2. He stops a bank robbery, just like in Superman: The Movie....

3. Lex Luthor steals a meteor rock from Addis Abbaba. Just like Superman: The Movie (Although I do understand that this was for homage purposes, just like the line from point ..1).

4. Superman saves a city from an earthquake, just like in Superman: The Movie....

5. Superman gets exposed to Kryptonite, and ends up in the water, nearly drowning. Then a woman saves him. Just like Superman: The Movie....

6. After getting his strength back, Superman goes beneath the Earth's crust, and lifts an entire land mass. Just like Superman: The Movie....

The kid, though. That's where I draw the line. I can't stand the fact that they made him a father. It's bad enough that they married him off in the comics.
