Re: Complete '89 Batsuit

Looks pretty good. May I make some suggestions. It might be the lighting, but the color of the belt looks more bronzeish. You want at least a greenish gold. I know for a fact the there were several ways that it was painted. The actually 89' belt was painted by Paul B. Brown. He described it to me as a greenish gold. This was back in 90'.
Make sure your boot stuff velcros around the ankles real tight, and solid. And without the boot atachments the leather around the ankle and calf should be tight as hell.
When you take pictures try using a big bedsheet (white) as a background so we can't see all the stuff in the background. Drape it all the way from the ceiling to the floor where you stand. We want to see you in the suit and nothing else. Also, if you pose with the cape over the shoulders, have someone fold the cape systematically over each shoulder, for a more prof. look.
Mess with the lighting and camera to get a clearer crisper shot. We want to see the details of the suit. i.e. how well the cowl connects up to the emblem etc.. The texture.

Great suggestions Bob. :) I want to do exactally as you described too. :wink

The problem is that I did all this by myself with no one to help with certain things. It's VERY difficult to fold the cape back properly and lay perfect doing it yourself in front of a mirror. :lol
In the near future I'll be taking very clear closeup shots with a white, neutral backround,as you desribed. :wink

Qusetion for ya Bob: Is there a way to paint this urethane belt to be closer to the real color? I've been hesitant with that because it's urethane.

yes you can paint urethane. But you need a primer made specifically for that urethane, and urethane paint. also, you need the right equipment, pref. an auto gun with a wide even disp. too much paint will crack. Less is more. Most auto paint stores have a color matching mach. get some good pics of the original belt. You can also use a flexable adhesion promoter made for auto paint with a flexable additive. This is what paul B. Brown did in the U.K. back in 88'. Again the rubber has to be really clean and grease free (degrease it). The mix of paint to solvent should be very little paint to solvent. Then mist it on.

Bob speaks the truth. I actually have an original resin buckle sent to me by PBB (that he found in his shed) and it is indeed greenish gold. I was quite surprised by it's colour and had first assumed that was partly due to the age of the piece.

I've been meaning to do it for ages, but I'll try and post pics of it later.

John, your suit looks absolutely awesome. It is the most accurate and complete B89 suit I've ever seen. The bar has certainly been raised.

John, that is one excellent suit. Is that mounted on Under Armour?

I will look into that Bob,thanks. :wink I wasn't quite sure how to go about it.

Thanks guys. This is now my most prized possession. Yeah,I have a couple other movie accurate Batsuits, but this one's my baby. :p

For the accuracy nuts like myself,be aware that this is not 100% accurate because it is a two piece suit, and not a one piece lycra jumpsuit. The reason I used UnderArmour is because it's designed for heat and also it's very form-fitting. Plus, the main reason is putting on the boots. They take about 10-15mins. to put on.
I can bend over with ease and not be restricted by the chest armor when lacing up the boots, plus I'm not sweating bullets by the time the boots are on. I can take a breather and cool down. Also, bathroom trips. :wink

Actually, these pieces are mixed and matched. :wink
Some came from Janty, some from P.J.,David,Artsee,J.V.,LouMo and [sign in to see URL] of course,Sports Authority. It's a cornucopia of bat parts. :lol
