I'm also looking for front thigh muscles like that. They'd be relatively narrow, and I'd like to line them with Kevlar and insert them in inside tights pockets.

Re: Muscle suits

I would like to work with Paul to make something like that but I don't think that he would want to. (Believe it or not he hates costuming)

I think that something like his sculpt would work but on a more less defined smaller scale.

If I had the time and money (and body) I would make a cast and sculpt my own.

Of course you guys know that Paul can make his muscle suits without the foam now. I would like to see what he could do about making them a little thinner for more movement.

I have one of his suits and it works well, the only problem is with movement as he tailored it for me and it is tight.

I plan on making one to mount on an undersuit as a muscle suit like the one you are talking about. When I do I will post the pics.

Yeah, I don't know why people haven't tried to make this kind of undersuit (that I've seen).

It needs to have anatomically realistic musculature, in separate pieces and attatched to a very light thin suit.

Here are some pics of the Spidey muscle suits. The one on the dummy is from the second movie, the one in the guy's hand is from the first:

Re: Muscle suits

Properly attached to an undersuit, something like a wetsuit but thinner and allowing more movement while still being able to support the muscles without drooping, this would be the ultimate way to make you look buff without all that painful weight-lifting.

Seriously, even if you are big and ripped (like isn't everyone???) (wait, isn't that a country group "big and ripped")
you still can't see all that definition under a spandex or other kind of suit. That is a reason to make a suit that can be glued down into the different areas of muscle definition. I wish that I had some free time and money so I could make one to show you guys.

I have been thinking of this for awhile now and I think that I have a viable solution to this problem.

Have him make a 'generic' muscle suit for us. If he doesn't want to go into product with them let us have the rights to copy it. Case closed.

Re: Muscle suits

if anyone's interested in making their own muscle suits like the ones in spiderman i can tell you step by step how it was done but it'll take some work...

who knows, it may be well worth it in the end because you could sell them...

Working with Paul I actually know how to do it. The catch is the money, time and help needed to do it.

Re: Muscle suits

ok, well basically
you first need a body cast of the person you are making the muscle suit for... this has to be sanded down and smoothed out and look nice...

Then you sculpt the muscles on to it... they are not meant to look like all the batman armor out there and are not supposed to be full body suits... they are simply "extensions" if you will of the actual muscle to enhance the appearnace and should be built up seperately on each muscle with space between them where you still see the body cast coming through...

From here you make a fiberglass mold of the muscles and body cast... this should be built up in sections so that it's easier to take apart...

Clean the clay off of the body cast as you will need to use it as a core. Put the thin body sock on the body cast and put the muscle mold together around it. You inject this mold with the foam rubber and it imbeds itself into the undersuit... when this is dry, you pop open the mold and the foam should be attatched to the suit where the clay used to be...

This is a VERY costly suit to make and i have only seen it done on Spiderman and another movie we are working on that I can not disclose information on... If someone here were to try it it would be wise to go in on the project with someone else and then sell copies of it to makeup for the cost... Hope this helped someone... emoticon

Good Luck and if anyone is going to try it I'd be interested in knowing how it goes and how it turns out...

That's very interesting, but I'm sure you must be able to get a similar look with a simpler technique. It doesn't seem like it would be hard for the guys who already know how to do the rubber costumes. The hardest part would be getting the sculpt right for the muscle parts. Then you could just cast them and stick them on a spandex suit. Not quite as slick as the method used for the Spidey suits, but I'm sure it would work almost as well.

The key is definitely the fact that the main muscle pieces are separate, and that the anatomy is realistic.

And the other movie you cannot disclose... well, I don't think that would be hard to guess \S/ emoticon

Re: Muscle suits

actually for the movie i can't talk about...
they are casting all the muscles seperately and gluing them to the suit... the problem is that once they sculpted the muscles on the full body, they then made each muscle it's own individual mold and that's a lot of fiberglass emoticon

it is quite possible to make each piece seperate but the thing is you have to watch the thickness of the piece and the edges have to get really thin to blend into the suit...

Re: Muscle suits

There is another way to do it that would be more effective. I know of a technique that could be used on a full mould that would work.
