Re: Possible new idea
Where can I find more pics like the one Batdemon posted?
And Bob you're of course correct, it can't be something that someone would be more interested in the flightsuit than the character overall.

Re: Possible new idea
Ya, I also have been always wanting to do a drake robin suit out of leather. But now the trick is to design it so that it doesn't look to daredevilish, or x-menish, or that could take away from the look. But one major lesson to be learned from these two leather movie suits is that you need to have some elasticity built into the sides of the waist, and the armpits must be free. The same for crotch, and sides of legs. What this does is keep the suit looking tight, while not restricting movement, thus making you looking like a stuffed tomatoe. And you want to make sure the suit is sewn to be body conforming, not flat stitched like almost every commercial leather jacket, flight suit, etc.. is. i.e. when I pull my hand out of a Batman glove, I want to be able to see the shape of a hand still there in the glove. So a jacket for example will be sewn to have a "V" bodybuilder shape even if its hanging on a coathanger. Damn I can ramble on..and on... and on.... :rollin

Re: Possible new idea
I thought a Tim drake suit would be good because of the vest-like look. I was thinking to incorporate a single piece foam leg muscles over the cod like the 89 legs, the upper torso is all leather. and foam boots with the ninja toe. This gets it away from a dardevil/x-men look. The whole will have film noir look. Remember to keep you leather stuff from being flat stiched, otherwise it will have that off the rack look. i.e. in my mind (what there is left of it), a leather costume piece should be an art piece. If you don't know what I mean by flat stitching, it's where you have two pieces of leather, one on top of the other, flat, and just run it under the machine, flat. This gives no built in shape to the piece.

Re: Possible new idea
Bob,
So you're talking about top stiching the leather correct?
My parents and I used to do upholstery work when I was in school. Actually I did most of the automotive seats, and wood refinishing, but I learned to sew pretty well (had to, nobody else would make superhero masks for me) :batmask
I'm going to lay claim to my mothers heavy duty machine, so I can start sewing some leather bodysuits.

Re: Possible new idea
Right, you are making a "bulge". One piece is flat, the other piece on top of that is curved, bent. Then the seam follows the curve of the top piece. This sewn good sides facing each other, then flipped inverse (good sides out) you have a built in form (broad example). In a generic leather coat, its not a one size fits all but a one "shape" fits all shapes of that particular size. You want a shape and size that fits you and you alone, AND accentuates good qualities, as well as minimizing the bad. You want the sides of the waist to go in toward the waist from the lats, and then fan out as jacket goes below the belt line.

Re: Possible new idea
If you haven't already ordered that one Brin, you may want to check out this Police tactical suit. looks like for a few extra bucks this can be made to order and to take up some of the slack you would have in a off the rack suit.
