Dying Spandex

I have a cotton blend spandex/lycra suit from Riversedge dancewear and am wondering if anyone knows if this thing can be dyed with Rit?

I checked out Rit Dye's web site. They say that Nylon is easily dyed with hot water and Rit dye powder. I've not had any experiences with this dying.

I don't think it matters if it is liquid or power. They sell another type of fabric dye in the craft department of wal-mart. I looked at it when I went to dye a wool fedora I believe it said it could be used for satin, silk, wool, and denim I would imagine it would work for spandex. I ended up using the rit dye only because the dark brown was alot darker than the other dye.

It can be done Tim.
I dyed a spandex bodysuit once, it was light grey, and I wanted a darker shade. I used black, but watched it very carefully to see how black it was getting, it actually made it about 2 shades darker.

Yes it can. I am using spandex as a base for my suit. When I bought it the suit was flesh color. So I used black rit powder dye. I suggest doing it in your sink not in the washer. That was you can see how dark it gets. Also it might come out purple if you dont dye it enough.

You can use a bucket (5 gallon ) if you dye it in your sink make sure it is stainless steel if it's porcelan it can stain it.

And don't crowd the material, that's why I do it in the washing machine.
And afterwards you can just run the cycle again with a little bleach, and good as new.
Much less mess. emoticon

Oh...yea I did it in my porcelin sink and it stained but if you have bleach it isnt a problem at all. Had the dyed water in there for at least 2 hours. No worries.
