Painting a Cheap Latex/Rubber Utility Belt

Hey again,

Back with another question. This excited leading up to Halloween is great! I couldn't get a hold of a belt that I liked, so I bought the cheap belt that's being sold for costumes and in toy stores right now...it's rubber or latex and is yellow but is shaded with black paint and velcro's in the back. It has the working pouches. My question is, if I wanted to paint it black, what kind of paint should I use??? I'm going for a Dead End look, if that helps. All help will be appreciated!!!

Probably black plasti-dip would work.

I just had a problem with one of those. I used a Rustoleum-brand plasti-dip coating and it didn't dry.

I would not recommend doing that.

I bought a new belt at Target and tried something else. Krylon spray paint. Do not use a regular enamel as it won't dry only the Krylon. It worked great and I will be using that belt for Halloween. After that I will be re-doing another one in a different style.

Try it. Just make sure to look at the style of finish you want. I used a glossy paint for a more comic style but going with the "dead end" look you may want a flat black.

Good luck!

Rick...rustoleum isn't really plasi-dip bro... plasti-dip is a formula in and of itself. It doesn't have the same problems that many of other knock-offs offer.

So the Krylon worked, eh? I didn't think it would, but I think I'll give that a try. I just have to make uup my mind now whether I should go black or just stay yellow. Decisions, decisions....thanks guys.

Tim, I got it at ACE hardware. It is made by Rustoleum (bad spelling) and it used the same way. (grips, coating etc.) I will not use it again as I didn't like it a bit.

I have seen Paul use plasti-dip (real brand) and the results were stellar! There really is no comparsion.

Yup, you're 100% on that bro...sorry you ended up with bad results from trying out something different though. At least it wasn't on anything that really put you out.

Yea, at least it only cost me $5 for the belt and $6 for the dip. From now on I know. (And I will spread the word!)
