If you cut your pattern right, could you get away without the seam on the back of the leg or is there an accuracy or practical reason I am overlooking??

Do the actual boots have a seam down the back?

Youngbat?

Anyone?

Yes,the real boots do have a seam down the back. The first two pics are the real boots...apparently taken in Bob's living room...lucky you :up
Another pic...

EDIT: I added a pic and lost what I wrote,so I'll try again.

If you make it one piece,it will be more like a tube and not fit around your leg properly. I believe you need two halves in order to get the curves on the back correct. Cut the pattern so that it's semi-thick at the top of the heel, thinner at the ankle and thicker at the top of the calf, based on your personal leg measurements.
Make sense?

Real quick on this one, in short it should fit your ankle extremly tight. The whole thing is VERY conforming. You should have to unlace it completly to get your foot into it, then lace it back up. About 15 min. to get them on.

I might add, when I put these (originals) on, it was very uncomfortable to wear. Remember all these suits were designed to LOOK good, but not necc. a joy to wear. Likewise, after climbing in and out of a damn canopy thing, you start wishing like hell you had a frickin side door. If you trip while climbing in, you're goin in head first....

My priorities involving costumes.
1. looks, standing still and when you move.
2. safety. can they breath? Stunts?
3. comfort. costumes are hell.
4. durability. - keep plenty of spares on hand. But better not break down during a show, or have pieces fall off etc. that can get you into big trouble.

You have to remember that everyone is built different. i.e. what looks good on M. Keaton may/maynot look good on you. They choose keaton cause he looked more at home wearing the outfit than a lot of more ruggedly handsome actors.

Hi John,
Can you suggest a good place to get 1/8" thick leather?

I love the tutorial, :up Thanks in advance!
