Re: 89 BOOTS TUTORIAL [by Blackwood Bat]
check to see if you have a leather factory store in your area. leather is something that is best not purchased sight unseen. you're probably looking at a 10 oz leather. chap sides are usually this thick

Re: 89 BOOTS TUTORIAL [by Blackwood Bat]
Yeah,what Dave said :up
I got mine at a local shoe/leather repair shop. If I could get more for people,I would, but it's rare that they have it. In two years I managed to get it only three times, and not a lot of it...maybe a 3'x4' sheet and that was pretty expensive.
The best advice I can offer is do a lot of detective work and see what you can find. I called and went to many places for a few weeks until I found what I thought would work well.
Of course, this is just what I used. I'm sure you can... A)find something else that is acceptable 2)get thinner leather and double it up for stregnth,or D)just use this tutorial as a guide and come up with a new, better or different way using a different style of leather.
Maybe use thin leather on the outside and a lining on the inside, with some kind of foamy stuff sandwiched between the two. That's probably how the real boots were made anyway, but I don't know.
Again, having no experience or knowledge of making boots or sewing, this is the best way I could think of,but I'm sure it can be improved upon.

I still have your email Bro. I dropped the ball and forgot to get you pics. Blackwood did mine (based off this tutorial).
Why don't you start with these
