You would want to use black leather and nothing else. I'm no leather expert by any means, but if you get thick black leather like what's described in the tutorial, it should blend really nicely. The reason for using this leather is so you don't have to be an expert with sewing, which I am not. If you use thinnner leather, you will probably have to do a lining with padding and it gets more involved. By using the thick stuff,it gives the appearence of having padding, but you only need one pattern instead of three. It stays up and is very stiff going up the leg, and holds the perfect shape, but breaks in really nice at the ankles and becomes soft in these areas. If it's done correctly to your measurements, they'll conform perfectly to your leg and you don't even know you're wearing them. If I could look normal wearing them on a daily basis and had 15-20 mins. a day to spare to put them on and 10 mins. to take off, I would wear them everyday. That's how comfortable they are. :wink John :flapbat nondisclosed_email@example.com (Blackwood Bat)Wed, 16 Feb 2005 20:16:37 +0000 Re: 89 boot helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1794530,from=rss#post1794530https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1794530,from=rss#post1794530This was very helpful to me as well, John. I went over the white on the soles with the dye as well, it worked, but I think it worked more like a stain, and I don't see it lasting very long. The rubber spray paint is good looking out. I suppose to make the "sleeve" on the top of the boot match, we should dye it (if it's not already black) and paint it with the same paint??? Thanks again for the info, John. You might wanna give 2 coats for the soles, but you don't need to go too crazy. This stuff works pretty well. Everything dries pretty quick too and you can also gently rub in some leather conditioner as well when you're all done. Brush it on and it'll soak right in. After that, get some Tamaiya flat black model paint and cut so its very watery...maybe 60% paint/40% water...something like that. Go over the entire shoe again with this and it will make it the perfect black. The leather dye is too shiney and purple-ish in bright light,so the paint will cut it a little. For the soles get '3M Grip-n-Gaurd' rubber spray paint and mask off the top of the sneaker and spray the soles AND strap over the top of the foot. That's it. :) Piece of cake...easy as pie. At the moment they're black, white, red. Of course they should be all black. I have black Plasti Dip, or should I use enamel paint on parts of the boots? I did see someone do this on our site, but can't remember where. Please help. :raiseeybrow nondisclosed_email@example.com (monkeybat)Tue, 15 Feb 2005 12:30:11 +0000
