Begins Cape Attachment
I was looking at some pictures of the official Begins suit, and I think I found out how they mounted the cape.
Looking at the pics from the Toronto display, there were metal bolts placed onto the top of the chest armor. You can see it on the finished piece, but you can also see the "markings" for it on the prototype survival suit. Take a look:
The collar part of the cape must have some ringed pieces that fit over the bolts. Then its seems they put the "cape clips" over the bolts to get the finished look:
However, the chest armor we see in Bruce's closet in the movie looks to be a bit unique because here we don't see any bolts for the cape and clips:
I was thinking of this after taking a look at the SUPERB Batman Begins replica at Dullam-Causey.com

Re: Batman Begins cape: mounting it onto the movie suit
That is also how the Sonar and Clooney suit cape clips were done. The cape clips on those suits had a little area that flipped up and inside was an allen wrench bolt, this was then screws into the female side inbedded into the armor. Obviously for the closet suit picture, the female side isn't inserted, to give it that clean display look. I also wouldn't doubt if the suit displayed in the closet was made out a more rigid material, like urethane.

If I remember right, that armor was specially created for that scene and was not meant to be worn.
