Attaching a Pleather Cape to a Cowl

I have Extreme Designs latest cowl:

and am considering attaching it permanently to this pleather cape:

Anyone have any experience with this? What type of glue should I use, etc?

That is, if bottom of the cowl rests squarely on your shoulders, unlike mine.:grumble If it does, then I wouldn't worry about attaching it permanently.

I used Bondini to attach my latex cape to my latex cowl. I have no idea about a pleather-latex bond though.

Re: Attaching Cowl to Cape Question

With the pleather, the thing you'd have to worry about is if the weight of the cape would pull the pleather part away from the cloth backing. Just make sure you stay away from anything that would give you cape a sharp tug.

I have that exact cape you show in your pics (from Brett Reynoso) & I've had to reinforce my velcro contact points for that reason. I glued velcro to the shoulders and back so my cowl would stay attached.

When I tried to take my cowl off, because of the force used in trying to separate the velcro pieces, some of the vinyl came off & started to tear, leaving the cloth underneath exposed.

What I did was cut a piece of scrap leather in the shape of my velcro pieces, place it on the cloth side, line it up with the velcro pieces on top & hand-stitch them together through the cape. It really helped reinforce it & it's holding just fine now.

However, if you glue the cowl down securely to the cape, you may have enough surface area contact to prevent this from happening. My contact areas were comparatively small and it took my pulling on the velcro trying to separate the pieces to start the tear. Still, you may want to think of some way of reinforcing it before you actually glue it down... Just food for thought...

BTW, I used Loctite Super Glue Gel to glue down my velcro pieces. It held just fine, it was the cape material that ended up separating and being more of a problem.

I have the exact same cape, got it for a steal too... very good quality, jsut reinforce the clasps, they tend to separate and the string holding it on rips easily.
