Putting Nostril Holes in a Cowl

OK, so here's my dilemma. I have a really nice Panther cowl from Janty that I may end up using for Halloween if I don't get my Returns from him in time (which shouldn't be a problem emoticon :up). It doesn't have any nostril holes cut in the nose piece. I don't really have any trouble breathing in it and it's not uncomfortable, but my wife hates it because she says it sounds like I have a cold when I talk. She said "you sound sick, nasally, and weak, not like Batman should..." :raiseeybrow

Anyway, do you ladies and/or gentlemen suggest dremeling out some holes to line up with my nostrils, or do you just cut the bottom of the nose piece out, or should I just leave it alone? I'm just wondering if any of you folks have had this problem and how you solved it.

Thanks!!! I'll sit here & get in all the "free breathing" I can until Halloween...

Actually, i spoke to Janty last night and he happened to mention that very thing.

He said that he recommends it so you don't get a blast of your own hot air back up into your face.

I wouldn't want to collect a noseful of condensation that'll build up in there and have it drip down from the inside of the mask. Yuck!

As a carpenter... I have a really good double-filter, face mask/respirator for when I'm working with a lot of mahogany or MDF or any other very fine, acidic, dusty material. After even ten minutes of use, my nose feels stuffy and a lot of water builds up in the rubber mask area. When you inhale your own warm, moist carbon dioxide your sinuses swell up, making your nose feel stuffy.

I think Janty leaves it up to you to drill out the holes not because of preference, but more so you can put the holes directly under your own nostrils.

thats cause both Mahogany espescially african and MDF have to be the freakin worse sawdust to breate.....I can relate it to the idea of breathing in volcanic ash

nasty stuff

trust me, put the airwholes if you plan to wear it but not if its display only,...
and do it by burning the wholes in with a soder gun instead of doing it with scissors that way they will be simetrical and looks better on display

he and I have talked about that alot....I think the nose on cowl sculpts should if and when you can, have the nosing cut off so that there is nothing under hte nose....but thats not movie accurate....but once you wear a cowl with the nosing removed you wont wanna wear it with it again....but that tends to only be how the animated series cowls get done

That's one way to cauterize your nose... No nose bleeds for a few days after that! emoticon emoticon

OK, I'll cut them tonight. I'll either use the soldering iron technique, or I'll use the Dremel with the cone shaped grinding stone. I've had good results boring holes with the latter... I'm sure it'll make it even more comfortable & the wife will stop complaining that Batman needs to take his allergy medicine!

Does anyone know if the screen-used Panther cowl(s) had nose holes? I checked out Forever this afternoon & I froze the screen when Kilmer is looking up at the building where Two-Face is while he's talking with Chase Meridian. The whole underside of the nose looked black... BUT I looked & studied it really closely & upon closer inspection it looked like the nose piece was either cut out completely or had two voids Starting at the face & continuing forward for the nostrils with Kilmer wearing some black make-up on his nose to completely black it out. It's a pretty dark scene & it's hard for me to make out, but it kind of made sense when I thought about it. Can anyone confirm or deny this???? I'm not really a big "screen accurate" fanatic, but I'm just kind of interested in how this was accomplished in the film.

yes the panther cowl has nostrils...scene happens so freakin fast its hard to catch
but they are clearly there

here is a cap to prove it

and um..well I guess your right...I shoulda mentioned to make sure while its not on you

though...marking the center of each nostril while its on could help...and the uncut membrain should keep you from shoving the marker up your nose
