Cowl Storage
This problem has been asked so many times but im a newbe. How do you all store your cowls when not in use. Do you buy a head and sholder dummy or a hat stand. I have only got a thin cowl at the moment. It needs all the support it can get.(Jants is making me a Returns cowl as we speak) Im just thinking of the future so my cowls stay in tip top shape. If you guys in England can make any suggestions for how to showcase your cowl give me details of what to buy and where. :batman

Re: Cowl storage
I use a couple of different things. For a cheaper method, you can stuff the cowl with some plastic bags or something and then put them on an upside down plastic flower pot (find one that is about the size of the neck opening).
You can get styrofoam heads on e-bay, which you can put into a cowl and then put that on a stand of some sort (plastic flower pot works well for the base of that also).
Or you can get a foam torso and put it on that.

Re: Cowl storage
You can get a cheap foam ball from Wal Mart, cut a hole in the bottom, and stick it on top of an empty 2-liter bottle.
Or you can go to a beauty supplies shop and ask for a foam mannequin head.
or check ebay.

Re: Cowl storage
I've been using the foam heads that are sold at wig stores. They're about $5 a piece. The only problem is that they're very small & don't fill out the cowl completely. That may or may not be a bad thing though depending upon how difficult it is to get the cowl on & off of it. Also, they're supposed to be womens' heads and aren't made looking straight ahead. They all have that little tilt to them which also doesn't quite look right for display. But, all that being said, they do help keep the shape of the cowl. For $5 they're at least worth it until I can find or afford something better. It's at least better than laying it down somewhere.

Re: Cowl storage
I wonder how large nerf style balls would be? I've been looking for a new way to store mine.

Re: Cowl storage
I use a foam rugby ball from Early Learning Centre on a piece of dowwl, which is in turn mounted onto a base so the cowl stands by itself. I find that the ball id just the right size to fill the cowl. Pop in a Keaton/Kilmer face cast (from ebay)and you have an instant disembowled Batman sitting on your shelf!
