How To Repair a Resin Emblem

I recently received a licensed Returns cowl from a brother here & it had a resin emblem with it. Well, the paint was cracked, so I've stripped it down & am going to repaint it. Before I took the paint off, I noticed that the tips of the bat's ears are broken off square. :help Is there any way to repair this before I paint it again, or are these things pretty much disposable once they're broken? If it can be fixed, what material do you think I'd have the best results with?
 :huh
Oh, and I DO NOT have the broken off tips. I would have to basically sculpt in tiny little points out of something & adhere it to the emblem.

I really would eventually like to get one of the really nice ones (Returns emblem) I've seen on here... If anyone has one they want to get rid of, send info to:

[email protected]

I'll see what happens with the old one first then I'll take it to the trading area.

I use a two part epoxy puddy from stagedoorstudios.com for such repairs. You just take a bit of it from each container rub it together in a little ball in your hands and apply it to the area and shape with an exacto knife or sculpting tool. It will harden and you can sand lightly the roughness out of it and prime to paint.

Excellent suggestion,Paul :up

You can get something similer at Home Depot,Lowe's,etc....2 part plumber's epoxy putty....if you don't feel like waiting for it to be shipped. Same basic principal.

Re: Repairing Resin Emblems???

Well, you guys really know your shiznet! I picked up some "AquaMend" epoxy putty that is made specifcally for repairing fiberglass & stuff like that. I got it at Home Depot for about $3. This stuff is incredible! I have fixed the Bat's ears & have moved on to fixing some wing tips & filling some air holes in the oval ring around the emblem. I snapped a shot of the bat's head with one broken ear & one repaired one & will try to post it a little later.

As this thing comes together, I will post progress pics in this thread for those interested.

I guess this is no biggie for all you seasoned vets, but for newbies like me, this is big news.

BIG THANKS TO ARTSEE AND BLACKWOOD!

Here is the pic of the one fixed ear. Sorry for how crappy the photo is - all I have is my cell phone camera. It looks MUCH better in person.

Here it is:

The resin is really pretty stained from the primer & paint that was on it, but I've stripped it down and sanded it as much as is going to do it any good. I'm confident that it will paint up just fine.

I have since fixed the other ear & all the wing points. Also, the chips you see in the oval ring (which were left by air bubbles) have been filled as well. I plan to begin painting tomorrow... I'm using Krylon Fusion on it.

A couple more shots of repaired emblem prior to painting.

Once again, it looks much better in person. Taking shots with a phone cam at night in my garage under a flourescent light doesn't do it any favors... There are some strange shadows that make the lines look a little off, but the truth will be told when it's painted.

I will probably use my dremel to smooth out some more of the inconsistencies before I paint.
