How To Paint An Emblem

Hey gang,i'm being lazy/curious. Whats the easiest, bestest way of paintin the emblem? I want the crisp color seperation between the black and yellow. I'm painting my 89 emblem.
My first guess is the just spray it yellow and hand paint the black.

Re: Bat emblem?

Pick up some yellow Krylon fusion, black krylon fusion and Matte Finish and some primer. Primer the whole emblem, then when it dries, paint the whole emblem yellow. Next, use some soft clay and clay out the yellow area right up to the bat. Take your time and do it nice and clean so the yellow background is completely covered in clay. When done, paint the exposed bat and ring with black krylon fusion. Allow to sit for a day or so. Then remove the clay, rinse and bam...perfect blend of black and yellow without the cheesy look of hand painting the bat and ring.

When finished with this, use some Krylon Matte finish to dull it down a little, so it isn't super shiny. The end result will look like your poured the resin evenly.

Good luck.

I've painted them by making a very wet paint solution, then basically pour it into the emblem making sure it covers all of the yellow (or gold) area, then sit it on a level surface to dry. You want to do it in thin layers, or the paint will crack.
Once you are satisfied with the paint job, use a clear coat to seal it.
Hope that helps a little.

Re: Bat emblem?

I have done that. Hand painting black can be a little tricky, but here's what I did.

Sanded the emblem so it was smooth,clean,etc....basic preparation.
I used flat yellow on the whole emblem. After it dried,I sanded the bat and ring using medium grit sandpaper....just the raised part of the bat and top and sides of ring. Worked my down to fine grit sanding film(wet-sand) and ultimitly fine grit steel wool....Glass smooth.
Then I carefully painted Tamyia Flat Black on the bat and ring...about three decent coats, steel wool between each coat.
After that,I used wax on the bat and ring and buffed it up. Regular wax...wax on,wax off.
Unfortunately I don't have it anymore or I would show pics. :frown

I'm sure there are better ways to do this,so you might want to wait until you have a few more suggestions.

EDIT: see, better ways...they posted while I was typing

You're welcome Hector. Glad I could help.

Gobby, I just prefer Krylon Fusion. It is such an easy spray paint to work with and really coats things nice and evenly. Its drying time to the touch is about 15 minutes, but is best to let cure for a couple of days.
