Driving To Appearances

This may be a dumb question, but I was [sign in to see URL] you guys make appearances, do you have someone else drive you there or do you drive yourself? If you drive yourself, what do you do -- do you don the full suit before you ever leave your house? Put everything on except the cape and cowl and put those on when you arrive? I'm just trying to think of a practical way to do this.

I'll have some appearances coming up in the next few months and I was wondering how I'm going to drive in the thing.

I'd love to get the thoughts of some of you veterans. Thanks for the help!

Just drive in your regular clothes and have your suit in a suitcase. If you have access to an area to change into your suit, that's a better idea. Nothing worse than hitting a pole at 100kph because your suit won't allow you to turn the wheel properly.

Really, I strongly suggest changing there or if you insist on being in costume already, have somebody drive you.

Personally, the most suited up I have ever been while driving was last Halloween when Dave told me to be at his place at 8, so I got my legs and boots on and blacked out my eyes and hit the road. I got some strange looks that night from people on the road. :lol

I usually wear the bodysuit and boots on with a long coat over it. when I arrive I'll put the rest of the stuff on. Funny thing is the cut of the coat allows my chest emblem to be seen and when I walk by the kids they do a double take and whisper "I think thats Batman!" Last Halloween my buddies heard some kids say it and we were all rolling!!

Never done it myself, dont have a full suit yet.

But I know from simply trying to drive with a Bat Cowl on to make my pals laugh, that the ears on your Bat Cowl will not fit inside the drivers area, the ears will be scuffing and bending all over the roof lining! And you wont be able to turn your head :)

Hee hee. "Get her." That was your whole plan. I like it; it was scientific.

It is not a good idea to drive in any type of mask that could hinder your vision. There is a very good chance you will get pulled over.

Ive done it both ways. Fully suited and yes your ears touch the roof unless you drive with your seat at a back angle.

and drove with all but the gloves and cowl on. BUT then everyone on the road can see your emblem and your eye make up and they still scream hey batman!

Do not drive with the cowl on! Even if you think you can see fine, DON'T DO IT! Just keep in mind that someone else's life may be at stake if you decide to wear it while driving because you 'think' you can drive fine with it on. It isn't something to play around with.

Re: Driving To Appearances

Thanks, guys. Allow me to clarify...

I understand it's never a good idea to drive while wearing a mask. I wouldn't do that, but thanks so much for the words of caution. My hearing and vision are both impaired a little when I have the mask on under normal circumstances, so I would never attempt to drive with it on.

I guess what I MEANT to ask [sign in to see URL] from the cowl, do you wear your full body suit/armor, or do you put that on after you arrive?

The reason I asked if you had someone drive you was because I thought I'd look like a goober dressed as Batman (minus the cowl, of course) stepping out of a 7-passenger minivan. Any way you slice it, it's hard to look cool in a minivan.

Sorry for the confusion. My fault for writing a poorly-worded question.

Re: Driving To Appearances

I've driven multiple times in my Robin suit, once with the mask glued to my face because I was in a hurry (you guys should have seen us, Robin driving Batman in a metallic green Acura Integra :) ) but would never drive with a cowl on. The Robin mask was so thin, it glued to my face so well that I could see perfectly while driving, but a Bat cowl is a different story. I've also driven wearing my Batsuit, just with the cowl off. It depends on how thick and bulky your armor is, if it is too thick and bulky, driving sucks, but if you have a lightweight costume, driving is easy.
