They'll be Kevlar/Armour lined! Like Bats body suit! :wink

Troillus,

Good point, just the kinda vehicle he'd need to lay down some bone snappin' on the mutants like in D.K.R!

Actually, armoured cars usually have foam filled tires. That way they cant be punk-tured..and I dont mean by Ashton Kutcher.LOL

The one common drawback from foam filled tires is the speed they will allow the vehicle to go at...however I doubt these tires have anything inside of them but air...they may be meant to be armoured to some extent in the film, and I'd be quite surprised if they didnt touch on the tires with some cool explanation justifying their exposed yet indestructible force....

I love this new car...think it's cool and it has enough of the 89 car in it to seem like it came before it....before the Bat-motiff was introduced all over his gadgets.

Re: Batmobile Poll

I can tell some things since I have seen the 89' car up close a zillion times, and I built a replica 95.
the 89' car is huge. roughly 400 cubic sq ft. (yes I worked this out). That would be if you calculated the overall mass of the body. When you see it up close, you start to question any real manuverability of the vehicle, and the amount of mass that you have in front you as a driver is nuts. Think of it like a 52' Cadilac in that when you turn a corner the weight of the car is pulling it to one side(sort of). BUT, as seen in a movie, or in photos the design is really cool. In real life it has the look and feel of being a really dangerous car to drive past 30 miles per hr. Again, the design is really cool on screen, and that's what it was made for.
The 95' car. What a trip(Tim Flattery design). Absolutley the most complecated auto design I have ever seen. Words cannot describe how complex the shape of each part is (even the damn seats). You would have to live it to fully understand. It all fits together like a massive jigsaw puzzle with no room for error. Unlike the 89' car it has a shorter wheel base (118 v.s. 141), and there is much less overall mass(you also cannot use any donor chassis). It looks much more manuverable. One suprizing thing I discovered is that a lot of the design of some parts reminded me of some of the early comic book concepts of the 50's. Ya, I know that seems strange, but you have to see it up close to get it. I also see some formula 400 type influences. The one thing I would have liked to have seen was this car in a totally serious movie. Craftsmanship wise, this car has TONS of neat stuff going on. The areas beneath the ribs (powerplant) can be lit (or not), can be made to look more real and less glam etc.. It is worthy to note that this car was built by two guys who had much real-life experience in designing and building cars for GM. So it's like the wildest car you can imagine, but still grounded in reality as much as one could with this design. I have to describe just one thing here. Take a real good look at the center strip that starts at the nose, and meets the fin on the back. That darn strip is a PERFECT straight line. Now look at how it goes up, levels off, then goes up over the top of the canopy, all in a perfect straight line from the front of the car to the very back of the tail. Now try to imagine building that-that perfect (25 ft. long). If it's not a perfect straight line your eye will see it in an instant. Not to mention the fin (Huge) has to be in order as well. Welcome to construction hell....
I will say one thing I like about the new car (I think the one thing that bothers a lot of people is the lack of a Batman motif). After having a pair of the biggest Mickey thompson tires they make on a chassis, Those huge tires are really cool up close. You get a strong sense of RAW POWER. That combined with a low to the ground ride height will make just about any design cool as hell. The rest is just your own flavor. You get a sense of raw power with a stealth like chassis design - you're there. I also like that this car was not built on any donor chassis. If it is, you gotta hide it like crazy, or it will be not taken as seriouly. i.e. imagine seeing a movie where you recognized a costume part that was used in another film, but you were not supposed to notice. Everyone's attention will now be focused on THAT.
   FUN Stuff, designing I mean.

The Keaton mobiles are my favorite, 95 car coming in second. Even though a lot of people don't really like the Forever car, as Bob explained above, the thing is a modern wonder because of all the stuff involved with it. Madman Bob pulled it off, which is why he is the man....how? I'll never know. :huh

WOW youngbat! What an education. Thanks!! I've always relished the 89/Returns Batmobile, even if it could use more Ferrari engineering and shaping in real life.

Maybe this grasshopper style Dozermobile will create its own roads.

Re: Batmobile Poll

Ya, I know what you mean. I was looking at it last night. I like the tires, and the low ride height - gotta have that, some of the airplane flaps are cool but the body looks so much like one of those gizmo cars you see at monster truck shows, almost like a zillion of these type of guys could have thrown this together. Needs more specific body design rather than just flat surfaces and hard corners. The air intakes look like a standard square ventilation shaft, in fact the body looks like someone with a background in flat sheet metal fabrication and ventilation systems built it. I do think the lack of a front axel is a neat idea. That part I like.
I read in a newspaper article that the quote on the bill for this came to about 2mil. I could break this thing down for you at under 50K. But - the cost of rental at shepperton studios plus, the high cost of buisiness property taxes, 200 bucks an hour for chassis builders, sheet metal fab, engine, drivetrain builders, If they know you have cash they will sock it to you big time. I used to get quoted astronomical figures for basic chassis, then if you call the bluff, the price comes down dramatically (I build my own). And they got a real heavy union thing at studios in the U.K., that is if it was built on a studio lot. You don't plug in a light bulb unless you are in the elect. union. Ya, I could see the bill for this coming to 2mil. Hey! its the batmobile. Some other part of the movie (suit design, batcave?) has to pick up the slack for this. Too many other films have top notch designs, the Batmobile should at THE top, hands down, without this many people not digin it.

One thumbs up, the second thumb will have to wait until I see it used. The first batmobile I wasn't so hot on, but seeing batman with a machine gun and bombs was cool- kind of a nod to batman's initial leathal side.
