Birchman 89 Batarang - Pics Pg. 2
Hey guys,
I've started my own '89 Batarang. I've cut the pattern out of 1/4" birchwood and I've shaped it pretty well. I'm planning on putting some plastic sprue from model kits to good use to create the raised details. I'm not sure which adhesive would be best for joining styrene to wood though. Any suggestions?

Re: My own '89 Batarang(no pics yet)
You can use Crazy Glue or any super glue,or a 5 minute epoxy if neccessary, but super glue should be fine.
If you need putty, you can use plumber's epoxy putty(Home Depot,Lowe's) or Squadran or Testor's model putty(local hobby shop).

Re: My own '89 Batarang(no pics yet)
I think John started something with his '89 rang. :wink Thanks for the tip, John. That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure.
It's coming along nicely now.
I would post some pics, if my sister hadn't stole the frakkin' digital camera. :whack

Re: My own '89 Batarang(no pics yet)
I've got the ridges on now, I just need to putty and shape it the rest of the way. It's lookin' awesome. :)
Will squadron putty work for wood as well? If not, I guess I can just use Elmer's wood filler. While on the scroll saw, some wood fibers pulled away from the edge of the rang and left tiny little oblong empty spaces.
I know the stunt rangs only had ridges on one side, but do the others have the ridges on both sides?
Now I just have to get the camera back and we're in business. :)

Re: My own '89 Batarang(no pics yet)
Squadron will work on wood. :wink
There were only 2 rangs used, possibly a third, but that's hard to say. One folding rang used for 1.5 seconds of screen time...possibly a second rubber one for throwing(speculation)...and a second/possibly third for when it's wrapped around the dudes leg.
Either way, they were single sided and thin. The front has the detail and the back is flat.

I think I may make my base out of steel, throw some craft foam on it, latex it, and plast-dip it... I hope it'll work...

I've decided to do a little surgery on mine and make the points out of steel... hope it works too. :p

Re: My own '89 Batarang(no pics yet)
I've got the metal tips installed now, and I put a sheet styrene veneer on the rang.
It looks awesome. :)
I took some pics of it tonight, and will take more when I've got it puttied(and of course the finished product). Can't post the pics yet, because I had to use my film camera rather than a digital camera, due to my sister's sticky hands and absent mind(she lost the dang thing). :cussing
I think I'll sharpen those tips to a nice level of nastiness. :firemad
