Yeah Tom,like I said you were damn close. :)
Let me work out the bugs and I need to get some good resin and tint and I'm sure we can work something out.
This is the rubber molds from Smooth-on...mix equal parts of A and B. Not sure of the model # or whatever, but I could dig it out of the trash. They seem to work pretty well, although I don't really have any experience with mold making,so I have nothing to compare it to. They're working for me! :p

yeah, let me know what you used to mold it, it looks like it's translucent, which would be of great use on a few things I'm doing, haven't looked through the site recently to check out molding materials. 1:1 mix is great, don't have to bring the balance off the shelf and play mad scientist.

I grabbed my book here, have tech sheets on 70D, seems to be pretty close to SC 325 , so you might want to take a look into that for casting black copies up, also, for the cost, the metal powder coating/casting isn't bad, think I paid under $10 for a pound of aluminum color. It really does help on painting and cleanup, seems to hold paint on better for me too. No luck on the original pigment I had, must have tossed the container, sorry.

Tom,it is 'Smooth-On PMC-121/30 Mold Making Rubber'.
Yes,it is translucent and looks exactally as in the pics. 2 part,1:1 ratio mix and it takes about 16 hours to cure. It also claims that if you bake it for about 6 hours at 150 degrees it will strengthen it. I did not do this, but probably will.

Tom,are you saying this resin that I'm already using can be tinted black with a powder as opposed to liquid tint?
If so,is it a matter of dusting the mold or mixing into the resin? I would like to try this because I can just run to the store to get this stuff instead of ordering it.

Are you just using glue to secure the bungee cords?

Thanks Michael.
Yes I'm using glue to secure the bungee cord, but it gets a little more involved than just a drop of glue. There's a lot of constant tension on the cord,so it really needs to be in there good.
I think I worked out a little trick to make it hold really well. :wink
I'm still experimenting,but I feel confident.

Proximo,I have very litle experience with mold making, but it was really easy to. Especially since it's only a one piece mold. Just put the piece you're molding in a plastic TupperWare type container, mix the two parts and pour it over the piece. Let it sit for the proper amount of time and the mold is done.

I got mine at my local hobby shop, but I think most people get there stuff through the internet.
When you go,just ask if they have mold making material and if they don't ask where to get it. They should be able to help. :wink
