Casting BTAS Grap Guns - Pics

OK, so posted this over on LOH, but for those who don't get there...

well, I finally learned to shut my mouth after that damn fixit paste incident.

Ordered and have tested C1508 aluminum filled urethane from smooth-on for this, works peachy keen.

Here's (bad) pics of the FINISHED gun. Yeah, going to cast a few up when I get back from Pittsburgh on Monday, first one's going on ebay and will be a working setup. I'll post a link when I get it up there mid/late week. Why then, well, since this version in the pics is the movie version, I have to make MY copy and then cast a few for anyone else interested. If my email was flooded with angry emails when I get back on Monday I might reconsider them ebay first thing.

Also, I've been working on the reworked web pages, drafted up all the pieces in that Emachineshop software, and trying to get all that done and online soon too.

Anyway, on to the pics

The final air setups minus the hose to the gun.

The first casting and the new one with a little light buffing done to bring out that nice metallic look. Did I mention I'm thinking of leaving them raw like that and just buffing? Well, I am, just too cool looking and it should look like metal I think.

The new handle, left is unbuffed, right has the center area buffed with steel wool. Not a full buff, just a quick job to get a comparison pic.

The inside, only 1 air bubble in this that matters, and that's on the one to the left near where the barrel connects. It's pretty small and I'll probably patch it up with some epoxy gel mixed with aluminum powder so it blends in.

Another shot of the outside, MAN that's cool. Looks better in person, and should look really nice in the movie. I still have to add the hose hole, drill everything and all that, but that's easy enough.

The hooks, working version will have 3 resin and 1 rubber if I can ever get one cast up right. These aren't 100% done, since I have to epoxy the brass "line holder" in place still, and I'd like to use metal there instead of line, less chance of it being cut by sharp metal. When I made these all I had was the line though. Also, you can see the compromise spool I used, only holds 12 feet of the line, but I want to make a version that's twice as tall and I will, but this is good enough for now. I have a couple spools cast up, just have to glue and sand and mold, will do that while casting the guns up next week.

Just another angle of the hooks. They could be buffed to make them look a little more like metal, but I didn't feel like it at the moment.

Anyway, that's it.

Tom

OK, emails going out in a few minutes.

BatDemon, not that big. Overall, 6 by 4.5 by 3 or so.

This was the first casting of it. --Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Ah, the air cylinder pic got me. I thought they were incorporated into the gun themselves.

I wish I could have worked it in there, but to keep to scale of the original design some things had to be "movie-ized"

I'm sure some creative and inventive brother could probably make a spring fired version from a cosmetic version.
