Grapple Gun Grips

Hey all,

I'm still in the process of sanding, puttying and shaping the pieces of my Begins grapple gun.

I've noticed that the thickness of the two grip pads arent very even, I'm sure I can get them to match with sheet styrene.

Also, the contours of the main gun body are very slightly off from the contours of the grip pads, so the edges are slightly mismatched.

So, if I need to sand the textured area around the edges, that texture is going to be lost. It looks like the texture was sprayed onto the original . Anyone know what textured spray paint was used on it? Or what spray paint will give that texture?

Thanks guys. :)

there are several rattle can paints that will work and you can pick the one you like as the cas will show you the sample finish

krylon makes a good one
make sure to autoprime them first

to get the real finish you need to have it powder coated, I have used that same finish on several pieces of ironwork over the last year

What you can do is,after it's shaped and sanded, get some Elmer's glue and real sand. Fine grit sandbox type sand should do. You only need a little.
Spread the glue evenly over the smooth areas and let it get tacky, then sprinkle some sand all over the glued areas. After a few minutes shake off the excess and throw a little more on if needed. Of course, let it dry for a while.
Then prime it and paint it and the dried paint will lock it in and never come off. It should blend really well too.

I'd like to see that as well.
I've never heard that being done before, but it sounds great.

John's right. That's an old modelers' trick. You can also use spray adhesive instead of regular elmers if you're careful (or if you mask off the areas you don't want the texture). :up

Would any kinds of craft sand do? I dont exactly have any sandboxes or playgrounds around here...

I'm also thinking about checking out what textures Krylon makes and seeing if any of those match the grip pads.

Yeah Patrick, pretty much anything that matches the texture would work, but I've used sand so that's what popped in my head first.
Be creative.:wink

Cool, thanks John. :)

Tony and Brin, you can count on me posting pics when I'm done. :wink

I'm quite a bit aways from actual assembly though, I'm taking my time to get it right. :)

Oh and another thing, about the handle/knobby thing on the back end of the barrel slide - the indentations in that look nothing like whats on the prop gun. Try as I might I can't think of any way to make those indentations look good. I've tried shaping it with green putty and a dremel, that didn't work. Any ideas? In fact the whole over-all shape of the thing looks off to me...

Was this a kit, or was this something that you're doing yourself?
