Head Forms

I'm looking to get a head form to sculpt a cowl. I was just wondering if anyone had an extra they were wanting to get rid of. Ive heard mixed views about the monster makers head form.

John,check with Bob D.
I think he has the Dullam head set up for cowls....perfectly straight and at the right angle,etc.,etc.
Maybe he can help, maybe he can't...dunno.

Who was it that was offering the resin bust? I remember hearing something about it awhile back. I can't remember the details.

Re: I need a head form

yer not gonna believe this.... I just dumped the mold cause I thought no one wanted a copy... I can make another mold as I have a copy.
What it is is an expoy casting of me down to my armpit. Yes the head is very straight forward, and the piece is very clean. Made specifically for a cowl sculpture.
The monster makers head would be good if you wanted to make a hard material one-piece mold that would force you to destroy the head once the sculpture has been casted. You can simply take it outdoors and torch it with a butane burner, and it will melt to a ball, throw it out, then go in and peel away the clay from inside.
My heads are usually a hard epoxy, but I can run it in a rigid polyfoam. The epoxy version is forever, but any rigid polyfoam one will not last forever. Dunno how good of a casting that one is.

I would want one. :)
The only reason I haven't done anything lifesize is due to financial situations that have, unfortunately, prevented me from moving foward. It's killing me because I think I'd be pretty good at it.
I'd have gotten one from you a long time ago if it wasn't for this. :lol
If,in the future, you'd still consider making them again, count me in. Can't say exactally when that would be at this point, though. :grumble

Re: I need a head form

they say the form is based off a models real head but they dont tell you the dimensions of this models head were really tiny

Brad, Keith and a few others found this out the hard way

dont like their attitude of you just build up the clay to be what you need it to.....well that can cost you alot given how much clay it takes.....

that head is really designed for making fulll cast masks and not things like cowls IMO..... cowls require jawlines and eyelines to be a critical element....that armature will work but the pain and clay you'll go thru doesnt make it that appealing

I'd go with Bobs.....and hopefully if the new piece he is working on fits really well from his new armiture (bucket head) I'll use that for an armature...cause I to cant find a decent lifecaster in southern california that will do it for less then a fortune

Bob What are your demensions? and what would you charge for a bust? I had planned to use my brother but he informed me they went to make a casting of him in art class and found out he is clausterphobic. Not sure if it really is claustrphobia or maybe just a uneasy comfort haveing someone you barley know covering your head in allginate.

I wish I lived next to you guys. I would like to do a lifecast but I have no one to help me. It's not like you can do it on yourself!!

Re: I need a head form

My head is 23", neck is 15.5". But the problem is I don't have a mold of this piece. Literaly just threw it out a couple of days ago. Darn, I wish I knew some needed this.
I could crank out another mold, but it will be a few weeks before I can get to it. I would charge 200.00 for an epoxy copy (expensive material, but very durable/lightweight), and probaly 50.0 for a rigid foam copy. The epoxy version will last forever, and have lots of resistance to sculpting tools and chemicals in clay. Just the chemicals in various clays can erode the surface of a plaster head over time.
One possible suggestion is to sculpt a self-portrait of yourself. You have all the reference material you possibly need, And the benifits from this will greatly enhance your sculpt of just a batman cowl. If I needed a new copy of myself today, that is what I would do. Ya I know, easy for me to say, but everyone starts somewhere.

Bob,are you saying you recommend sculpting a self portrait rather than doing a lifecast?
If so,what kind of clay would be best for this, approx. how much would I need and a ballpark figure for cost?
Yourself,Mike Hill,Howard and a few others have really inspired me to want to try to do lifesize busts, etc.,but I'm unsure where to begin.
Thanks!
