DAP vs. Industrial Velcro vs. Needle & Thread

 Hi Everyone,
What is the best way to fasten chest or leg armor?

In the past, I glued it on using Dap Contact cement in the red can. It works ok, but it's so messy and it burns if you don't put on enough saran wrap especially arounfd the crotch area. Last time I almost burned my jingle-bells off :bounce :firemad :bounce

I just bought a new lycra dive suit and wanted to try something different.

I was thinking of using velcro or sewing it on by hand. Any suggestions???

 THANKS IN ADVANCE :up

I did the DAP stuff and the toxic smell was brutal. Industrial Velcro just doesn't like to stick to fabric and it will peel off pretty soon (it did to me, anyway). Sewing is probably the way to go, if you got the patience for it.

I've used Zap-a-gap super bonding glue with lots of success.

Try not to sew it on, as after a while, the weight of the armor may cause the thread to cut thru the armor. Velcro will not last, as your leg is a moving part and with time, it'll come off.

DAP (or its equivalent) is the way to go. Too bad about them jewels. I forgot to wrap my thighs and the glue went THRU the lycra and burnt the holey hell out of my inner thigh. I had glue on my thighhs for the next 4 days.

If you don't wanna be in the suit while it's being glued on, shove pillows (if you have a dummy it'll be better), towels or whatever in the suit - saran wrap them before shoving them in - and glue the armor on. Wear a mask, and do it in a well-ventilated place. There's nothing much you can do with the mess, but to minimize, use your fingers so you can feel where you're applying the glue.

Oh, and post pics of your suit too! ;)

I no longer have the AOL email so send me a email at the yahoo.

I used Household goop. I had a few problems but I think it was a bad tube of glue

DAP is the only way to go.
Do the top and the bottom separately, make sure you wear a shirt or pants, thermal underwear works well, then really wrap yourself with the Saran wrap.
You can then use Bondini around the edges. It will never come loose.:wink

[sign in to see URL] you have a bodycast, or a duct tape dummy, that would be much better.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the Great Tips!

I was kinda hoping that velcro or sewing would be the more recommended of the three, but it looks like I'll be using the ole Dap again. I'll definietely wear more clothing so I don't burn my jingle bells :cussing

I'll keep you in mind John if I need some help. Thanks again guys :up

I also adhered my suit with Zap A Gap and it worked wonderfully.

Once again I agree w/ Brin. I had Brother Brad glue my suit down w/ DAP and it worked very well. I had the tri-athelete suit on, an just a t-shirt and shorts. No burning. And it's stayed [sign in to see URL] ups w/ super glue. It's really tough getting out of the top, even w/ under armor! Maybe you could have someone else glue you suit down. It made it much easier on mine, plus they can step back and make sure things look right. Just my 2 cents.
