You are on a roll!

Even if im more of a display the collection kind of guy.

I will probably glue some armor in the future at some point, to get the suit display completed.

Not sure if i can find DAP here though.
Will normal superglue work? :lol

d713a... Thanks. As far as the suit, it's one of the Ebay suits that PunisherNC got his from as well. As a matter of fact, I have him to thank for it. It's a bit more suiting for a woman, than the typical black Spandex suit I would have gotten from River's edge Dancewear.

Her's a link for the suit we got...

Don't count on it getting to you by Halloween though. It took almost three weeks for us to get ours. emoticon

Markus,

Dap is construction adhesive. Check a local hardware store for something comparible. In all honesty I prefer Household Goop but have use superglue alot lately because it's way quicker. I wouldn't use superglue on spandex though, only when glueing to a wetsuit.

Again EchoSix, you come to my aid. I was just getting ready to post a thread to see if anyone had done a kick ass armor attaching tutorial with pics and there was your thread.

Thanks for all of your work on this. Saves us greenies loads of frustration trying to figure it out. :band

This method is permenant right? I just aquired a very nice Begins armor piece and I dont want to ruin it by thinking I can remove it later.

Thanks again!! :cheers

Re: The simple use of DAP... A Tutorial

Okay... Gluing urethane.

You need to get one of the super glue brands… Something like “Super Glue”, “Bondini”, “Zap-A-Gap”, “Crazy Glue”, etc. They’re all the same, really. But you MUST get the gel formula, because it doesn’t get absorbed as quickly as the liquid variety and it’s easier to control.

You can also use Goop brand glue, but I find that it's very messy and thick. It'll work in areas that you know ahead of time, will NEVER be seen by anyone, but I wouldn't chance it myself, around the perimeter of the armor. In case you accidentally get it on the fabric, you're screwed. That stuff doesn't come off. At least with a brush (using the DAP) you have a bit of control.

FIRST... Wash the edges of the rubber with a small amount of lacquer thinner, to clean all the oils off the rubber, to allow for a much stronger bond.

When you start the gluing process, you have to do it all very quickly, because the glue dries very quickly and you MUST use it while it's still wet. Unlike DAP Contact Cement, where you have plenty of time to apply the glue and then wait for it to dry, with these super glues, you HAVE TO work quickly. At least a few inches at a time.

When you glue the edges of your suit down, you can't squeeze the glue all around the entire perimeter of your suit. All the glue will dry up by the time you got all the way around to where you started. You should only do it in nothing more than six to eight inches at a time, because (once again), the glue dries very rapidly. The best method to use for "clamping" the rubber to the fabric, is with your hands. Simply squeeze out a few inches along the edge of your suit and hold it in place, the same as you would like explained originally. And once that's dried, you do another few inches and so on and so forth.

I don't recommend wearing rubber gloves while doing this, because you'll possibly get small pieces of the gloves stuck to parts of your suit in case some of the glue drips out. It's easier to use your bare hands and simply wash the glue back off your hands and fingers later, with a very small amount of acetone.

Don't bathe in the acetone, because it gets into your blood stream very quickly and travels to your brain and you'll eventually wind up drooling and barking like BatmanAll does all the time these days. So use the acetone sparingly. It's something Tony repeats to himself daily now. He says, "Shoulda' used less. Shoulda' used less. Shoulda' used less. K*Mart sucks. K*Mart definitely sucks. Yeah... Shoulda' used less. K*Mart sucks."

Anyway, to answer the question... No.

No... You can't use DAP with urethane. I just tried it and it doesn't hold. The glue WILL stick to the urethane and it WILL stick to the fabric after you apply the two halves... But when you pull on the rubber, it lifts away from the glue, leaving behind all the glue that was attached to it, so that its glue is now stuck to the fabric.

So, there's that.

Use super glue.

Re: Gluing your latex armor with DAP... A Tutorial (edited re: urethane)

thanks for the update on Urethane.

I was wondering if the glue still needs to cover atleast an inch of the armour so that it holds in place ?
Also instead of SuperGlue how about Miracle Glue ?
This is a solvent free type of superglue used for repairing Neoprene [sign in to see URL]'s a link to it
[sign in to see URL]

Also I have been informed by a Bro that another good way is to Get the velcro with peel off sticky backing. put one side on the inside of the torso at key places. (outer perimeter). Now peel off the sticky backing. Get into the under suit. Put the torso on. Now gradually peel away the torso leaving the other part of the velcro attatched to the undersuit. Now take the undersuit off, and permanatly sew the velcro pieces to the undersuit.(otherwise they would proably not stay on very good). Then go round the outside edges with superglue or the above mentioned Miracle Glue.

just wondered if stitching the Velcro to the undersuit would weaken the undersuit or not ??
Anyways hope this helps any Bro's / Sisters out with regards to Attaching Urethane Armour.
Would also apprectiate feedback on this as I'll be trying this soon ha!

You don't need a wide band of super glue, to hold it in place. Maybe about a half inch or so.

And everything I've heard of, in regards to attaching your armor down to the bodysuit, using Velcro... Is that it makes a lot of noise. As you move, you "crackle and pop" as you walk and it alsways loosens up on you.

I guess it depends on what your needs are. If you're gonna' be standing around for photos and you also want the ability to remove the armor from your wetsuit and wash them, then maybe Velcro is the way to go.

But, if you plan on being very mobile and athletic and doing a lot of up and down stairs... Then stay away from Velcro, as a means of attaching the rubber to the bodysuit.

Straps work the same way. As you move around, the armor will float around too.

Gluing the edges of your armor, will keep it still and give you the ease of mind of wondering if you look all shifted and out of place.

Who wants the emblem on their chest to be off center from the cowl? And the look of unsightly bulges is just fu*king ugly. You don't get bulges when you glue it down.

Of course using Velcro underneath your emblem and as a means of attaching your cowl to the cape, is the only way to go.

Thanks for clarifying this for me Echo.
I'll just use Super Glue to fix the armour into place =)

Thanks for that Echo. I was wondering if anyone ever tried it.

I was advised to not plasti my urethane logo either, because as that person said, almost nothing will stick to it. You just proved it again. :lol

Pesky urethane. :p

Well, we did about four wraps around each area. You know waht I mean? Where you go over any various area, about four times. I'd recommend doing as much as you can, but doing it loosely, so that you don't constrict blood flow or all likelihood of movement.

Oh, and Markus... Take progress shots and of course photos of how it turns out. :up

Thanks, 4 layers than ;)

I wont take any progress pics,But i will show some pics later.

Im just gonna glue the legs and knee-caps for now.

But once they are glued, I plan to suit up with everything just to see the overall look.
Im gonna wait too glue the chest.

I will take some pics if i try everything on, Wich im probably gonna do before taking the undersuit off :p

Ive had all the pieces for months, but just never got balls enough to try and glue it. Plus ive had hard time finding the right glue. I found a glue today wich is the same thing as DAP, or Contact cement thing.
Its in a jar, alot of glue! it have to be applied just as you described aswell. So im pretty sure its something similiar to it. It bonds to rubber, plastic, fabric and so on. So it will work. i have already tryed it on a piece of latex.

 :cheers

Hehe, Looser yeah.

Its embaressing enough to ask my father to help me glue armor onto a spandex suit. But actually taking pics of it aswell is abit too much for me. This hobby isnt big here.
Its so rare, so people think its a fetish.. (wich it kinda is :lol )
My whole family is like "HAHAHA" for themself. (and other people ive told that im putting together a bat suit.) Not so fun. I can tell by their looks they wonder what the hell im doing.
I was just in my spandex suit a few minutes ago, put outlines of the leg armor. Im going to buy a new marker pen tomorrow so its more visible.
My brother came down and i said before he asked. "We're prepping for gluing the armor." he was like "ooook..." and walked away with a half grin.

Eitherway i'll keep you all updated :lol
If all goes well tomorrow, I might do a "My suit" thread in the costume vault, with some test pics of everything on emoticon
I have to say, It felt damn nice to just wear the spandex suit. I can imagen how it will feel with the armor glued on. gloves and all that. woo.. cant wait.
