Studio Scale Batwing

If anyone has any really, really good shots,I would appreciate it.

I have a few and have seen the closeups on the special ed. and it has some nice shots on it.
However,it doesn't really have any crystal clear closeups that show the finer details,as in,is it smooth or does it have panels, and if it does have panels, does it have rivets?
If so,what is the exact configuration of those panels, how big are each one and exactly where are they placed?

These are the type of details I need to know for an upcoming project.

I have a couple models, like the Ertl kit and Tsukuda kit,and they're both very similar in the placement of panels, but the Ertl kit, which is bigger, seems to be more detailed and correct, and it does have rivets.

I would venture to say the Ertl kit is very close, and close enough for reference, but I want to make sure.

I figured this would be a tough one.
I wasn't really expecting any,but it was worth a shot. :lol

I think I have enough reference material anyway, but you can never have too much.

I would guess that there are no rivets going by the finish of all the other vehicles.

I dont know if the pic below is the genuine prop or a well made model kit but the first pic is from a load of genuine concept sketches that were on evilbay.

I doubt there would be too,but I really don't know. The Ertl kit has them. They're very subtle and realistic which leads me to believe they might be right.
The Tsukuda kit has panels in the same areas, but less realistic looking and with no rivets.

The reason I ask about the panels and rivets is because a couple of weeks ago Ed sent me a real piece of crap studio scale Batwing. It's a horrible casting filled with problems, but I can work some magic and make it a showpiece.

In your bottom pic,I believe that's the real filming model. I'm going by the Batman figure more so than the vehicle itself, but I think it's the real one.
It clearly shows panels, but I think my real question is,are those panels etched into the model,or airbrushed on to give the effect of individual panels.
For example, the movie USS Enterprise has individual panels, but they're painted on. In other words, the model was built with a smooth surface, but the paint job shows otherwise.
To the casual observer, the ship is basically white, but when you look up close, you see a whole pattern of panels giving the impression it was pieced together during contruction. But they're not actually etched,or raised panels.

The pic of the Batwing clearly shows panels, but I can't tell if they're etched or painted on.
The model I have has a smooth surface with no individual panel etchings, whereas the Ertl and Tsukuda kits do.

It's studio scale, supposedly taken from the real thing, yet with no panel etchings,so this is what brings me to this little problem.

Bottom line question if anyone knows: are the panels etched in,or painted on?
Rivets or no rivets?

What do you guys think?

Somebody posted in either the costume or fan art section that they had made models for Beetlegeuse,Batman and other films but I cant find the thread or remember their screen name.

I was going to suggest asking him.

Yeah Tony, that would be cool. I'm a few weeks or better away from starting anyway, but I just wanted to get some reference type info gathered in the meantime.
Thanks.:wink

I know exactly who you mean, but he hasn't been around in quite a while.
I know he did some things for Returns, but nothing for 89,but yeah,ya never know.

know a guy up here that worked on the penguins for returns...pretty sure he didn't work on 89, but I'll ask anyhow.

I can't make out any fine detail from the movie book. Could always make it without and add them later if it turns out they were there.

Bat Trivia

There were five batwings built for the film by Derek Meddings (he also built models for Thunderbirds and the Spitfire for Pink Floyd The Wall)http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0575439/.

The pic above is the real deal but I cant find a hi-res image.

One of the originals is at Planet Hollywood NYC.
