Microprene as an Undersuit

I came across a website that was advertising a material that was like neoprene, but less than 1mm thick. Has anyone used this stuff or considered using it?

Here is the link to the microprene suit I found. I am sure there are plenty other distributors, this is just for reference and info.

> 1mm Microprene Wetsuit

I know David had mentioned making an undersuit a while back, does anyone recall what he said he was making from?

Yeah, I was thinking that armor would probably cover all of the areas that are not black anyway.

Check out some of the stuff on www.Hendersonusa.com Some neat materials there.

Are you sure about that? Look at the description:

Quote:

Thin, flexible wetsuit that protects you from sun, stings, and abrasions while keeping you warm in tropical waters. Why leave the beauty of your snorkeling excursion because you're chilled from staying in the water an hour or more? Even though the water is 80 degrees, remember that you lose heat 25 times faster in water than in air. A drop in core body temperature means you'll feel more tired and less able to enjoy your hard-earned vacation.

I'm not a diver, but that sure sounds like it's designed to keep you warm, not cool.

I just read that part too. But they do have some other products of interest. Take a look at the stuff called HotSkins. That looks like it might be an option.

It's weird that they claim that microprene to be less than 1mm thick yet talk about how warm it is. :huh

Read it closely. "Even though the water is 80 degrees, remember that you lose heat 25 times faster in water than in air. A drop in core body temperature means you'll feel more tired and less able to enjoy your hard-earned vacation."

Once you don a latex, urethane or silocon suit, you could be buck naked underneath and you are STILL going to sweat.

1mm Microprene suit *will* be cooler than a 3mm Neoprene suit.

I use a spandex divesuit and still get overheated after about 45 minutes.

Damnit bro, there has to be something out there that is light enough to not kill you from heat and strong enough to resist sag. Im gonna keep looking. :coffee

Whats the possibility of reinforcing a spandex suit to resist sag? Maybe running strips of the stronger material on the undersuit. That way you're not stuck with a full on wet suit or a sagging spandex suit but something inbetween.

Re: Microprene as an under suit?

vittorio2 my bro and i thought of that exact thing, what if you were to run a strip of plain cotton about 3 inches widefrom the middle of you thighup the front of you body and down the back to your bum.

use a larger strip of cotton anf fold it a couple of times untill you get your 3 inch strip. then sew the strip on both sides to the spandex suit.

by doing this it should theoreticly stop the steching because the cotton should be takeing the strain of the wait and not the spandex.

just a thought any way.
