It's lightweight, and you want it to be lightweight because the latex will add enough weight as it is. And, once the latex is coating it, it will be nice and strong anyway even though satin is kinda delicate. I've never had any problems with my cape ripping.nondisclosed_email@example.com (PatrickJ)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 13:40:37 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054697,from=rss#post2054697https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054697,from=rss#post2054697Thanks Patrick! That covered the few missing gaps of knowledge I had. :up I haven't picked up any material for the core yet. In reading the archives I see satin gets thrown around quite a bit. It also seems that any fabric that isn't vinyl will work. So, I don't know. I was thinking of just heading to the fabric store and looking around and picking up something that is really lightweight and cheap. Any suggestions?nondisclosed_email@example.com (vittorio2)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 12:42:52 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054695,from=rss#post2054695https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054695,from=rss#post2054695Thanks mate :up nondisclosed_email@example.com (menore)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 12:28:46 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054686,from=rss#post2054686https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054686,from=rss#post2054686Well.... check this thread out. :wink http://com1.runboard.com/bbrotherhoodofthebat.f11.t189352 Theres actually a couple more cape threads I started that are archived in the Capes section.nondisclosed_email@example.com (PatrickJ)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 11:50:26 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054678,from=rss#post2054678https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054678,from=rss#post2054678i agrre this is a pretty good tutorial :) do you have any pics Patick?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Drakul)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 11:19:53 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054650,from=rss#post2054650https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054650,from=rss#post2054650That’s a nice tutorial that……. One of the tutorials mentioned that you have to be careful when flipping the cape over because the latex will stick to itself. So my questions are: At this point (when I'm flipping it to do the other side) is the latex completely dry? Do I need to let it completely dry before flipping? What about in between coats? How long do I let it dry? And last one, if it's sticky now, will the final product stick to itself when its all said and done? (edit) One other question. One gallon of the Mask Making Latex from Monster Makers had been mentioned as the latex to get. The latex here Does that sound right? Thanks again! Thanks for the info! Hey bro, I can answer your questions about latex, but I dont have any experience with pleather. Anyway here goes. Here's how I did mine - hopefully this will answer your questions. I laid the cape completely out on my driveway, with a tarp underneath. I poured some latex(tinted black with ink) in a paint roller pan, and covered the roller in it(use a long handled roller). I applied a single coat of the latex and waited for it to dry(which took a few hours depending on the heat and humidity). It's dry when it turns completely black. I applied another coat and waited for it to dry. I then applied "Black Magic Wet Shine" which is a tire shine to it. It can be gotten at any auto part supply store. This stuff keeps the latex from wanting to stick to itself. Do these steps BEFORE flipping the cape over to paint the other side(it will stick to itself if you dont put the Wet Shine on it - even though the latex is dry). Flip the cape over. Apply a couple coats of the latex to the second side, in the same manner as the first side. Use the tire shine on the second side, in the same manner as the first side. Again, remember the Wet Shine is what keeps the latex from sticking to itself when all is said and done. I didn't use Monster Makers latex for mine, I used a different brand. But, that looks like the right stuff. "Mask Latex" has a specified thickness compared to other types of latex... So if it says "mask latex", you've got the right thing. I used a bottle or 2 of black ink to tint my latex. Just dumped it in and shook it up. Hope all that helps. :up Just curious... what are you using as a core for the latex to adhere to?nondisclosed_email@example.com (PatrickJ)Tue, 18 Sep 2007 02:13:29 +0000 Re: Cape questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054618,from=rss#post2054618https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054618,from=rss#post2054618Sorry one more Do they make a double-sided pleather material? All of the material I've seen in fabric stores has a white backing or something equally as unpleasant.nondisclosed_email@example.com (vittorio2)Mon, 17 Sep 2007 23:40:58 +0000 Latex Cape Making Question.https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054617,from=rss#post2054617https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2054617,from=rss#post2054617Hey Bros, So I've finally decided to try my hand at a latex cape.
