Here is a pic of the buckle and link next to rubies parts. Some of the previous pics for what ever reason.. light, angle.. make the belt look smaller than it is...

actually, its probably because the C links are next to it.. when on a person, they will be less flat, or angled back.. showing more of the buckle..

I think this is probably in the ballpark of the right size.. but, only so much can be done from pics..

that comment was not one I wanted to post. but I do pick things up very quickly.. and have an eye for things. I was merely saying i dont need to buy someone elses work and recast it... when I know that if I sit down and study it, i can do the job quite well, and still have a conscience.

Im sorry to be blunt about it.. but i was quite frustrated. Perhaps i should have thought before posting, but i didnt. i also didnt run and edit the post as thats just not me.

Your belt looks really Kbillan! the only thing i could see that was slightly different between yours and the actual belt is the at the top of the side buckles. on the real belt the tops run parallel with the centre buckle, your's is ever so slightly angled. Looks great though! emoticon

yes, i know. Im deciding if i want to change that. I think a lot of it is the angle i took the pic at.., as I am standing "below" below the buckle with that pic... but it does indeed have a slight angle.. and the top of the buckle has a little more curve than anticipated.. I can fix this easy with a premature pull/tweak.. and some sanding.. But will I? we will see.

here is a pic from more of a top angle.. Its a weird belt as some pics really do weird things with your (MY) head.. this one of the obstacles I had to overcome...

]--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

thanks for all the reference pics of BA... I actually really would have liked to have seen those two months ago.. but, i think i would have ended up here with or without them. That belt looks nice.. but it looks huge.. just an opinion.. I actually would have loved to come across one a few months back..

As with any sculpt.. my belt is NOT going to be 100% accurate. BUT, i pride myself on doing the best job i can. And as a VERY green sculptor... i think I rocked it.. I will thank all who have added their thoughts, criticism and tips.. (you know who you are) and guano for his [sign in to see URL] they gave me inspiration and ideas on how to do all of this...

Here is an interesting pic of my Main link.. Interesting to me at least.

Hope you all enjoy. My machinist friend is interested in making a whole belt.. using my buckle and side links.. I might take him up on it for giggles...

Purty.

That would be cool to do a machined belt. It would be hell on the suit itself though. It'll tear it apart in no time(if it's in metal like I think you're saying). But, it would make a great display piece.

However, machining some out of wood or plastic would be great too. An easy way to get duplicatable parts if you have the right tools.

The reason it jumped from 3 to 8 pages is because someone here bought a premium runboard membership a few days ago. When that happens the forum temporarily becomes a premium forum. Each thread page holds 30 messages(instead of 10 - thusly fewer pages in a thread). It just reverted to its normal self today - few messages per page, so more pages in a thread.

Ahh, I see. LOL.. I could have sworn it was 3 pages.. LOL.. anyway.

The edges of the piece are nicely finished. Its not sharp.. and unless on a foam latex piece.. i dont think it would harm anything.. no more than resin, id imagine.

And as that is the master, i will easily replicate it.. in a fraction of the time of machining it... Those two pieces took about 6 hours to make. They were done on a CNC, but by hand. No program.. just a micrometer and a piece of paper and a pencil. You can all see what happens when you rush.. one of the last things to do was cut the channels for the metal strips.. well, for some reason we were figuring the strips were .250" deep when in fact they are .125".. well.. once the machine started i said.. UHmm.. that dont look right... LOL.. luckly, front and back were the same at that point (no tapers cut)and we just flipped it..

Ah... well, I'd hope you'd at least put some kind of anti-scuff backing on the belt.

Now that youre doing it in metal, you should have someone bronze-plate it. emoticon

No no.. Im not doing it, although it can be done...

These are my masters for the mold. I will mold these and pull them in resin.

The problem i was facing with my links was that they were sculpted by me, a very beginner level sculptor. The buckle, was easy enough.. infact it had to be sculpted... My machinist friend said to mill that buckle would be very difficult... and costly. But the links.. in order to have consistency with the pins and tolerances, I had to have square links. Links i could put in the bottom of the vise and be sure that I was drilling at 90Deg. It wasnt going to provide the quality I want so.. I bit the bullet. Now I have perfect links..

I am planning on having a belt mocked up by next weekend. It will be a rough prototype.. the rear links wont be done.., in fact, the only thing that will be done, i think... will be the links. But it will be all assembled.. and maybe even painted...

I did a little work today.. trivial stuff to the dial... and the rear links are a little better than roughed out, like they have been for a week..

Ordering more silicon now.. emoticon if i told you all what this belts total cost is right now.. uhm.. youd think i was insane. And were like at 60% done...

I think so. I mean, i only touched clay for the first time the day after Xmas. But i do give it 100% and do what i feel is the best i can do..

I am no where near a dullam... not even on the same continent, let alone state or ball park... I want to try new things.. and will.

In fact, next on the table after i call this project done- I am thinking of doing the strap for Henry Waynes Panther buckle- that, if I read correctly,, Efarrel (i think that was his name) is abandoning...

we will see...

Its all in good fun.. and as long as it stays fun, ill be here ;)

Fantastic... tools and pins show up... no silicon... called smooth on and the receptionist thinks they are waiting for mold max 40... but couldnt give me a definite answer..

Awesome. Guess i wont have a prototype this weekend.

Might be in luck.. i got them to switch it to Mold Max 30 and it should have shipped today. I should have it friday.. and if I do, i hope to have something nEEt to show sunday night.

Snide remarks aside-

Thought id throw an update. Smooth on came through huge when i called and found out that they were out of stock on MM40. I changed the order to MM30 and like the original order, i ordered a trial size to do some little stuff before cracking open the gallon. got 40 in the trial size. They had here next day. KUDOS Smooth on. Satisfied customer.

I was quite thrilled with the trial size BTW... it did every thing i needed to do. Pulled molds from my billet parts and all of the rear links I have been working on. AND its still not spent. I also changed the links from the billet master a bit and re molded them. I have now had about 8 generations of this [sign in to see URL].. and a mold for each$$$$$$

anyway.. here are some pics I took today. i worked on stuff a little.. but I was mostly baby sitting molds and pouring. The mold i have now does one tapered and one regular link.. so you can imagine how boring it is to pull all of this.. I HOPE tomorrow to do some drilling and pinning. I kind of ran out of time tonight as mommy went to work and me and the little one are playing.

Enjoy~

Oh yah. This is what I came up with for the rear links. I based this on one very unclear pic. I do know that one shot of the movie shows the rear very very briefly and it looks like the guano rear... but I swear in one of the display pics, where the belt is in the case you can see the back side of it, and this is the construction.. of at least that belt... I may build both sets... we will see.

Also did some mods to the dial, buckle and C links... i wont be able to build with this buckle tomorrow.. as it has some clay on it.. and i dont want to wreck it.. but I have another ill use.. it just wont line up quite as well in these C links..

Im also still working on curved rear and C links. I have a great idea to try, but wont be able to try it until I pull molds of all of this. First things first.. lets get this one perfect....

Pictured next to my guano belt for size reference.. my guano is built with 8 links.. and looks to be about 1" longer per side.. (minus adjusting hardware) My belt, has 7 in [sign in to see URL] will be able to accommodate more with a twist of a couple screws..

Criticism welcome.. if there is something im missing, sanity aside.. speak up ;)

No hard feelings. Just calling your remark.

Its like... I dont know... perhaps im nuts.. but to joke with guys.. you have to know them?? i dont roll into any threads and make comments like that about anyone. i suppose i just would hope for the mutual respect.

But again, no hard feelings...

And BTW.. I dont think all that highly of myself.. I know my abilities.. and can be confident in them at times. I dont think im better that this guy or that one.. although some times people think that i think that. Its not intentional.

I would hope that people who have gotten to know me would say that i am an HONEST, sincere, caring, passionate person that doesnt give up..

Again, no hard feelings.. toward anyone.

great update, I was looking forward to this! Don't we have a picture of the movie prop, to see if there's really seven or eight links to it? but ultimately the owner can add links if he chooses to, so no biggy. Your links seem a little bigger than Guano's, am I imagining this? in any case it looks great.

Re: Just a sneek peak KB BEGINS BELT... 3/1 Update.. home stretch..

Slightly bigger. At the back of my link, they are [sign in to see URL]... but smaller in the front due to the taper.. The guano buckle is 1/8" taller, but mine is like 1/4" wider...

the rear links are pretty close to the same size... kind of odd actually.. lol.. I drew the 3 differnt links out on foam filled poster board, using one of my old sculpted links as size judgment.. and this is what came out.. they're really close LOL. I think my rear links are 1/4 shorter when all together and spaced properly. Almost the same height... and obviously, different configuration..

here is the pic i am referancing for th back links. LOOK super close at the left side of the right belt.. you can see the back of the rear links.. I swear the two center links are identicle here..
