Re: My review of aquaseal using urethane and a triathlon wetsuit

I used the aquaseal with the cotol on a test sample. I let it dry overnight.
It worked. That is the best way I can say it. On this same piece of neoprene I have a test sample with superglue. Both pieces are stuck on there fairly well.
So my idea of what armor to glue with what glue is holding true. The aquasure dries slowly so I really recommend glueing it while it is on a lifecast. Or do what I am going to do which is put on your undersuit. Mark where you want the piece. Take it off. Either stuff it with towels or something similar, lay down the glue on the inside of your lines, then lay down the armor on top. Hold for a minute or so to let the pieces "bond", then leave it for 3 hours. This is with the Cotol. Without it you need to wait 10-24 hours. Maybe longer.

I'm sure there's an american equivalent but over here in england there's a neoprene based glue called bostik 2402, you can buy it in a 1 litre container with a catalyst to speed the whole thing up and it's apparently a contact glue so once it's on then it's stuck. it's also water proof and flexible, and from memory i think it said it's dry within an hour and fully dry 24 hours later. I've not got an understuit yet but i'll probably be opting for that when i do get one emoticon hope that helps.

I just looked up Bostik. The issue I think you will find, as I have is finding what will stick to urethane. What it seems like Bostik does is the exact thing I tried with the cement last night. The cement I used was also for neoprene, but it did not stick to the urethane. See if you can get a small amount to try out.

you could also try buying a small pint of urethane from smooth-on and some of thier "kick-it" cure accelerator and use that as the glue.

Re: My review of aquaseal using urethane and a triathlon wetsuit

Ok guys...update. Man, will anything stick to urethane? Besides superglue. The test with the aquaseal with the cotol failed. Well kind of...
It stays stuck on yes. But due to the drying time and the lack of what I would say a truly strong hold on the urethane, I cant recommend it. If you have a latex suit I am sure you would have better luck.
Next is flexi type CA.
*edit* I was getting ready to go to bed and just looked down at my samples. How I did not see this I dont know. The aquaseal IS sticking to the urethane. When I pulled it off it actually removed the glue from the neoprene instead. How did I not see that??!!! Ok, more tests to come.

Update...
I did not realize it but I had done one last test piece I forgot about for about two days. It was still aquaseal, without the catalyst being used. I just looked down on my desk/workbench and noticed what it was. So roughly after 48 hours...this stuff is stuck on. Really stuck on.
I pulled on the armor piece and I was able to get it pried off, but for the first time it actually took some neoprene with it. So it worked. It holds to the urethane and to the neoprene. You just have to give it time. But unlike superglue, it should remain flexible. That is my big problem. The flexibility in the knees and arms. Superglue for everywhere else.
