I'm doing the same as sin03. I got grey Tarmacs, took out the knuckle guards, cut out part of the mesh, dyed them and then sculpted and attached my new knuckle guards. I think they're gonna turn out pretty good.

I think I started something... lol. Hey bro, I'm think of taking a pair of scissors to the top layer because I think messing with the stitching along the side of the glove would be a disaster.

Once I took a peek to how the knuckle guard was sewn on it was obvious what seams I needed to rip. Just took a few minutes. Once the new knuckle guards are glued on there shouldn't be too much of the hole in the mesh leftover from where the old knuckle guard was.

I'm gonna tear off the little rubber velcro strap at the wrist and replace it. It's the last bit with a logo on it.

Okay guys I finally got some clay together and tried at sculpting some custom knuckles. I figured I'd post the pics here seeing as it was Kevin that "told" me to give it a shot lol.

I started with this shape:

I don't really like the shape of the tdk knuckles so I went with a more tear drop shape. After getting that I sculpted a "base" for it to go on top of.

Overall, I think it's a bit more of an aggressive knuckle. I like the shape of it but I'm still trying to get the "wrinkles" flattened out (without completely wrecking the sculpt).

For a first attempt, not bad I guess.

Those looks pretty symmetrical. :up Is it Super Sculpey? Try to get it a little smoother. If it is SS you can then bake it and sand it even smoother.

Thanks Kevin!

I used Van Aken modeling clay - it's the only kind of clay available at my local Michael's that I knew for sure was oil based. The only other kind they had was Primo I believe, which I wasn't sure about.

Could it still be baked? And if so, what is the right temp and time to bake at?

Jason.

IF it could be baked it would say so on the package.

Crap... yeah this stuff can't go in the oven. The good news: it is compatible with silicon molds.

Guess I'll have to just keeping smoothing away at it.

Re: ** TDK Base gloves identified! **

Just wanted to update everyone on the homework I have done on this. I've done some exhaustive research and spoke to the folks and Icons and Scorpion and some people who have been in this industry for years. Nobody has been able to identify the base glove for me and they have all been a little puzzled as they thought they knew of every glove ever created.

So it's either a custom for the film specifically or maybe an overseas company release.

Good news is the fine folks over at Universal Designs appear to be releasing a replica of the gloves at some point. I am sure they will be incredibly accurate and very well made.

Thanks for posting that Kevin. I own both a pair of tarmac and scorpion and I now believe that the Tarmac is NOT accurate - the ribbing portions of the fingers and thumb has a more rounded border, which is definitely not on the tdk glove.

I've owned the scorpions for awhile now. They are a much nicer glove overall and look more like the tdk glove (with the exception for the cover missing from the thumb tip, but a piece of suede can fix that).
