Re: TDK's Ribbed Undersuit; Let's Track It Down

I'm thinking about using sewing the mesh in sections onto a body suit. The armor will be blank so i can glue the armor to the undersuit. Thats the plan I have atm. It might change later on.

I spend more time on the RPF than here, so seeing someone boggled by trying to be screen accurate is messing with me something fierce.

I mean, I bought one of the $20 DST TOS Comms, and I still had to make a new moire, track down and attach some T-Jet hubs, and I've yet to but still plan on nabbing some radio mesh, metal moire ring/control plate/mid plate, filling in the try-me tab slot and spilling some solder on the grid for that proper old school look. And I'm prepping myself to do much of the same for the $30 Tric popping up in Sep..

When I finally have a completed Batman suit, I don't want people to look at it and go "That looks like Batman", I want them to see me and think "That's the !@#$ Batman".

Hey neon I wasnt trying to rain on your parade...
I was just being realistic. It seems to be a huge pain in the butt.
I was giving an opinion. Personally I don't care what people think of me when I am in my suits. As long as the kids down at the hospital like them that is all I care about. If I was in a comic suit they would think I was Batman.
I am all for being screen [sign in to see URL] I am chiming in because I know how obsessive I got about my Bob [sign in to see URL] making it perfect and now I am back to square one. I have my own idea for my TDK suit when and if I decide to do [sign in to see URL] least for right now I don't see myself spinning my wheels looking for some ribbed material that was probably a one off material that the experts who made the suit came up with. Just like the cape...
I still have yet to see that pulled off. We have material thats close but there was a brother working on getting one made but I havent heard about it in a long time.
And I made the comment to him also that I thought he was going through a massive headache of trying to get a flocked nylon cape when in the end you will feel like you wasted alot of time and resources on it and some kid just spilled kool-aid on it.
So again not to rain on your [sign in to see URL] just wanted to offer some constructive feedback about it. Hopefully you get it done by Halloween.

I've gone cheap on stuff before, but you always end up upgrading. Might as well do it right the first time. Good luck you guys, and much appreciated.

Any updates on this topic?

If memory serves me right, someone mentioned the possibility of the undersuit being ribbed in certain spots. Well if that is indeed the case, than I may have a possible solution:

Recently I was looking through my Batman Anthology special feature discs and came across the Smashing Pumpkins music video on the Batman and Robin disc. I immediately noticed the suits that Billy Corgan and Co. were wearing - greyish material with noticeable ribbed sections.

Just a thought.

Jason.

I already posted this on the RPF, but thought I could bring a bit of focus to this aspect of the suit over here:

Beneath the mesh of the Dark Knight suit is a ribbed undersuit, as seen here:

Now, I'm having the hardest time finding this stuff.

From what I can tell it's simply black poly or poly-blend ribbing, but I can't track down anything similar.

Have any of you run across this fabric before, or have a hunch where it may be located?

The undersuit is a major contributer to the appearance of the suit. It creates contrast, giving a sharper appearance to the mesh, and, through the ribbing, creates depth. It also helps to disguise the contours of the body and give a uniform appearance to the mesh that would otherwise wrinkle and fold.

Anyone have a lead?

I know this is a very old thread, but I think I may have found what Neon was referring to way back when. I was in a local Fabricland about a week ago looking at material to do a comic suit. While looking through their "active wear" material section I came across a few materials that are very stretchy and have a decent sized ribbing going on. If I remember correctly they are a brownish colour so they'd definitely have to be dyed dark grey.

Looking at Neon's picture at the beginning of the thread, it looks like the base suit is a dark grey and the mesh is a bit lighter.

When I'm in this store next time I'll be sure to jot down the material info. But for now, check active wear materials in your fabric store.

Jason.

I have seen the TDK suit in person twice. Total time frame spent looking at the suit is over 30 minutes. It is NOT two suits. There is no ribbed undersuit. It is a very thick mesh suit. I have said in other threads about how I have literally been less than an inch away from the suit. It is on display at Warner Bros in Burbank CA. No barriers, no glass, no anything. So if anyone is trying to be screen accurate...
it is not mesh on top of anything. It is thick mesh only.

There has to be some sort of backing or else we'd be seeing Bale's skin lol :rollin

I understand what you are saying about it just being mesh - the tarmac and scorpion motocross gloves are made with a mesh that has a backing built right into it. But I have yet to find a way of getting that type of mesh. In fact, that type of mesh goes by several different names (pending on who you talk to or what Chinese exporting site you get onto) which just makes the search far more difficult. Its why many bros have been using adult sex stockings on top of a solid undersuit.

There's likely no way of getting a truly screen accurate suit for this IMO. But I do think Neon was on to something

He wasn't on to something. :lol
And I bet you'll see something truly screen accurate very soon. And [sign in to see URL]'s not from me. :wink

If I ever do this suit I am going to simulate it. Basicly I am going to spray whatever fabric I use with a template that looks like mesh. That way it is less material and it creates a similar look.
Even my girlfriend upon seeing the suit for the first time was like "it seems so overly complicated"
