Re: A NEW foamies Batman Begins, begins..(Update with ARMOR 10/13 pg 4)

That is incredible! The stuff that people are doing with foamies these days is blowing me away. I mean, I knew the stuff had possibilities, but I never dreamed it could go this far. You're really being creative with your shaping techniques. Great stuff.

This material really makes making a pretty nice batsuit very affordable for lots of people. You know it'll be light, probably a lot cooler than latex or urethane... I wonder how these suits will hold up after wearing them for a while and if you'll have to do lots of repair in between suit-ups. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Can't wait to see this one finished up and being worn!

mobility you ask? well, as with foamies let's say i won't be doing Calisthenics anytime soon. haha

but yes it's pretty movable. i can walk and pose with it just fine, but i won't be giving high fives unfoutunatly.

ALSO! (not trying to hijack my own thread ha) i recently helped one of my good friends finish his Returns armor completely out of foamies and telelphone wire, so be sure to check that out in the mean time till i finish painting the armor.

Wow, threads around here get lost in pages pretty quick, especially around this season. Gotta keep on top of this lol…

Anyways, I just wanted to get everyone a quick update on the armor.
Did a first coat of plastidip, and it came out pretty smooth. Then the wind kicked up a bit on the second coat and it started to texturize :( Total bummer! I had to tear apart and redo the ENTIRE abs section (thanks god for foamies), but nonetheless it came out pretty smooth. Here’s the next step of the tutorial.

Part 2: The Upper Chest

For the breast portion, we once again heated and stretch 2m foamies around the breasts on the mannequin to give it that more 3d look. I felt that the emphasis on the abs and the breast section will really make this thing stand out than regular conventional foamies look. After that I ran a soldering iron to draw that begins line as you can see on the bottom of the breast portion. Try not to drag the soldering iron too fast as it will begin to pull and leave unwanted drag marks in the lines. The trick is to do it slow and smooth. Try practicing on a few scrap pieces first!

For the shoulder and arms portion, we heated and once again stretch the foamies over the arms and ball of the shoulder to build the upper arms.

For the actual shoulder bells, I picked up one of those cheap Styrofoam balls at any craft store and heated the foamies around that to give it that round shape. I then backed it with padding from a Double D cup bra. Yikes! How embarrassing was that to buy….

Here are pics of the suit after the FIRST COAT of plasti dip.

Pretty smooth, should of stopped there… For first timers, I would just recommend going straight to design masters flat black spray paint as it will coat evenly and color evenly. With plasti dip, you basically have to throw out any conventional methods of spray paint. If you don’t lay that stuff on thick, it will texturize and can possibly ruin the suit (it almost did to mine). Thanks for advice Garrick. :)

Stay tuned folks! Up next is the LEG ARMOR!

Here's a teaser.

(sorry for all the glue. That will be cleaned later)
