Im sure the flexible foam has a good degree of hardness to it despite being flexible, although I can see some risk when making the mold that a brow or the forehead maybe gets pushed in a little and the mold will forever have a ding in it. By having the rigid foam it will be a lot easier as it has something solid in it to keep the shape. Sure you may want to make another master in the future as this one will get pretty much destroyed but at least a risk is gone. Cant wait to see progress on this!nondisclosed_email@example.com (TheKingaSwing)Sun, 25 Jan 2009 18:59:58 +0000 Re: Bat Texan Jim Lee-style Cowl Sculpt UPDATED PG 9https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142128,from=rss#post2142128https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142128,from=rss#post2142128It sure does look stunning Tom. :up nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Fri, 23 Jan 2009 18:51:06 +0000 Re: Bat Texan Jim Lee-style Cowl Sculpt UPDATED PG 9https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142121,from=rss#post2142121https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142121,from=rss#post2142121Turned out great! I thought I'd remembered something along those lines on the thread for your cowl. When I make another urethane foam master, I'll definitely be using the soft foam. And I haven't done any armor . . . yet! Alright RevIm, you've got a sharp eye, I confess, it's rigid foam! That's what I like to call my one major screw-up on this deal. Long story sort, I misread what Ed recommended, and got the wrong stuff. However, it's not a total loss, since he thinks after I cast the ultracal mold, I can just tear out the foam til I can collapse the urethane enough to remove it. I'll get the right foam to make another master, but in the meantime I should still be able to get a one-piece ultracal mold off this one and start pouring latex. I feel like such an idiot! :banghead But things have been a little crazy around here the last few weeks, but we're past the worst of it. Thanks again for all the nice comments guys, it's what keeps me going when things don't quite go as planned! nondisclosed_email@example.com (bat texan)Fri, 23 Jan 2009 17:23:55 +0000 Re: Bat Texan Jim Lee-style Cowl Sculpt UPDATED PG 9https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142097,from=rss#post2142097https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142097,from=rss#post2142097yeah i mean its probally soft, he knows what hes doing, its just ive been watching alot of videos where a hard urethane foam is used and it looks alot like that. so that last pic made me wonder. I have one concern/question for you. The foam you used to fill the urethane master. it is a soft expanding polyfoam correct? as opposed to a hard curing urethane foam? that is definitly a big deal and its hard to tell from just pics but the foam in the last pic looks rigid and not squishy. hope you can say that it is. nondisclosed_email@example.com (RevolutionImages)Fri, 23 Jan 2009 17:05:46 +0000 Re: Bat Texan Jim Lee-style Cowl Sculpt UPDATED PG 9https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142055,from=rss#post2142055https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142055,from=rss#post2142055I like. :up nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shadowbat69)Fri, 23 Jan 2009 15:29:00 +0000 Re: Bat Texan Jim Lee-style Cowl Sculpt UPDATED PG 9https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142049,from=rss#post2142049https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2142049,from=rss#post2142049Thats absolutely beautiful! I've only read two pages of this thread so far, and already, I'm hooked :dropjaw Bat Texan that Is a RAD!!! sculpt, I'll continue reading the thread to see how it turns out. I've been lurking in the shadows here for only a handful of months, but from what I've seen of yours, you really know how to make urethane/latex look like a drawing of cloth :huh Wow, I hope that sentence makes sense to you, 'cause it almost didn't to me. Two questions for you....First, I recently read "The long halloween", and really dug the drawing style. The name of the artist escapes me ATM, but have you, or will you ever do a cowl like that ??? I'd totally be into it, and other bros can chime in if you guys would be too. Second, have you ever cast complete armor in latex or urethane to match your comic style cowls ???? That way, those of us who don't quite have the bodies to pull off a HUGE...RIPPED batman in spandex, could still look cool !!!!
