posticon '89 Glove Tutorial

Here's something useful to put in the archives
’89 Glove Tutorial
Two Piece Glove:

Forearm:
Materials:
• Paper
• Pen
• Pleather or any leather; one yard (you’ll have extra) I used Marine Vinyl Pleather
• Scissors
• Olympia 103 gloves or other
• Sewing Machine
• String or Sewing Measuring tape
• Sticky-Back Velcro
First, I started by measuring the circumference of my gloved wrist, with the Velcro opening on tight, but not too tight, around my wrist. It needs to be loose enough to allow your hand to slide through the wrist area. Next, I measured the circumference of my forearm, and added about two inches to it, so it won’t be really tight around my forearm. The last measurement is the length of my forearm, all the way to the wrist. I basically connected the points. Your pattern should look like this:
 Image
Once you get that done, I cut it traced it out on the back (Nylon; you can easily see your pen) with pen. I used Marine Vinyl Pleather that I found at Joann’s for 10$ a yard. I then cut the pattern with scissors. When I am done cutting, I pinned it about a centimeter in like so:
 Image
I then sewed it with a simple straight stitch. (Well I didn’t but my mom did) It should look like this:

Here is where you should be at now

The last thing I did was attach Velcro on to the inside of the forearm where your wrist is, and the outside of the gloves wrist. On the gloves wrist, you need to cut it appropriately so that the Velcro opening and closing on the glove still works. Note: one thing you might want to do on the glove is there is a small opening on the glove right above the Velcro; if you want, you can sew this together.
Pic of hole: (think of golf glove)

Palm Modding:

• Silver Brads
• Wirecutters
• Superglue
• Suede
First, I drew out a pattern, identical to the shape of the palm on your gloves on suede. Now I cut the pattern out. Next I cut the ends off of the brads as close as possible to the head. Glue the brads with this pattern. Start from the bottom up. 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 in a triangle. Once glued, glue the entire thing on the palm of the glove.

The Ribbing:
Materials:
• Paul (Artsee1) ribbing
• Superglue
• Scissors
For the ribbing, I first cut it to the appropriate size for my wrist, and superglued it to the wrist of the forerm. Now you should have the illusion of leather ribbing on the wrist, just like the real ones.
Instead of using the kit, I will mold straws :lol I'll cast in latex. I will cut the excess ribs.

Here's what My latex rib looks like, untrimmed
Image
Done, Other then palm and fins!
Image

Fins:
Materials:
• ’89 fins ( I use Luda’s)
• Superglue
• Scissors
For the fins, I just cut slits in the side of the appropriate length and width of the fins ( I am using Luda’s) and put superglue on the base of the fins, and putting it in the forearm; super-gluing it in the inside.

A lot of this stuff I haven't done yet. Anything after sewing the pleather I have not done yet. I will get pics as I go

So Eden, I guess you were able to convince your mom to get the upholstery needle we discussed?

Also, I may line the inner of the forearm with cotton, or similar material, to prevent itching and scraping on my forearms. I will probably just glue in strips to avoid stiching :wink Especially the seam itches and rubs when on :wink

Bump.
+ a note. I am going to use shin guards inside the forearm, to give the fins someplace to attach :wink

I'm not totally sure that would be needed, Eden. Aren't you going to wear the gloves over underarmor? Eitehr the DE suit or an undersuit.....

Something tells me the only time the gauntlet will be touching skin is when you're trying them on without the rest of the suit...

wow. I am pretty stupid :lol Thanks Batbrat, a very good point. I may still line it, just to get the material a bit thicker

I was thinking on how to do the lining for some for myself when I thought, double the amount of material and fold in half, then sew the ends together.Might not work but great idea you've come up with here DOESITCOMEINBLACK101.
