Re: Custom made fabric - electrostatically flocked parachute silk

Thanks buddy but without you i wouldnt have this happening either. I guess i will elaborate more for everyone now.

Kevin had the idea to do capes at somepoint, but like the undersuits its hard to get a full commited run going. We are looking into ways to incorperate the full sized gliding cape look, while still managing to get something thats costume friendly in scale. In the film there are a few variations in sizes that we all can see, and the goal is trying to blend those together and still hit as many of the screen look elements at once.

I had a CAD table at work for cutting out large paper displays we make, and yea i like to use it to cut my cape templates on :batman I draw the outlines in illustrator and cut out large posterboard sheets to make my capes, really helps get a precise design down.

I recently did another cape last night with something slightly smaller then the design show above. Kevin and I were both kinda into doing it full size... but like hes seen now, its just too big. My current design is big enough to cover you from the front when the cape is pull foward, and when pulled back over the shoulders it barely touches the floor with minmal drag ( im 6 2' ) Another goal was when the cape is spread fully (and held with rods) the full shape is shown and not dragging, the tails not dragging on the floor either. But you can spread open the cape and it looks pretty darn big like his flying cape. Id like to have rod slots for the outer panels too for that option if wanted.

Basically its been tricky fussing with it to get a nice balance. We are looking into figuring out the actual walking capes pannels cause ive only gone of of many screen shots and promo pics.

There are also other things we have noticed like the cape seens to have curved panels in some shots, particularly any shots where he is falling, because when he is gliding the cape has a very straight edged look to it. The cape in general has a very uniquely Bat look to it and not the traditional pie shape.

Anyways no photos of the templates are being posted at this time so dont ask please. If and when the run gets going we can show you the shape of them. But if i post and people make there own capes , we will never get enough intrest going to get everyone an accurate cape.

Im doing a fan film shoot in my begins this weekend and im using my new cape i made so ill post pics asap.

Looking absolutely outstanding. Can't wait to see the final piece. I'd love one of those myself, I'm gonna have to find a way of raising funds and creating enough time to make one.
Keep up the fantastic work man!

Thanks everyone. I am really excited about this project. If I think it is doable I will start an interest thread in the trading area. So until then please sit tight and no talk of trades. :wink

My partner has since flocked a lighter nylon for me and I should have a small sample next week to inspect. It'll be sent with the neoprene suit order.

Ink Great job on this. How does the inside look? I figure you didn't use a rip stop nylon because of all the little squares.
I actually read up on the flocking process after watching the special features. I never thought I would still learn things but hay its kinda fun, when I don't have to have it do on the teachers desk.

outstanding work. Sounds like you've been carefully working out the details. Always good not to rush when trying to get something just right. Judging by the pics on the first page, you're definitely off to a great start with this.

I can't wait to see how this unfolds. I'd definitely be interested too and will keep checking the trading section. Light, flocked cape sounds perfect.

Thanks again everyone. I've been trying to get this done for 3 years now so it is not as easy as I would have originally thought. Just a matter of meeting the right people finally. Hopefully it'll turn out half as nice as I hope.

The right pattern is the greater challenge now.

I like seeing the dog in the pics. Almost had that look like, "Hey is that my new blanky?!?" My dog would have already been taking a nap in it before I could take the first pic.

I simply love what you have done with the place. Heavy Metal meets House and Garden. Not many people can be a Summer and Winter. But you pull it off nicely.
