Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
Life's been kicking me in the ass lately, so I haven't been posting around here much lately. I had a couple of thoughts the other day, and I thought I'd run 'em past you guys.
Last year, I made these latex gauntlets for my suit, loosely based on the Begins gauntlets:
The fins were sculpted and cast seperately from the gauntlet. That way, I was able to trim down the fins and the gauntlets for a smaller size person (like my Batgirl).
Since then, I've made a number of these for several brothers (and sisters!), and now my molds have deteriorated to the point where it's taking too much work to make a pair. So I'm thinking about doing another sculpt for both the fins and the gauntlets, and making some improvements to both the looks and the process. I'm not looking to go movie accurate, just something inspired by the ones in Begins. I guess what I'm asking is, is there still some interest in these?
I'm also contemplating doing some latex 'comic'-style gauntlets. They would have the same basic shape and velcro closure as the Begins, but would be sculpted to look more like 'gloves', including wrinkles around the wrist. The fins would be more of a comic style, a simple curve as opposed to the angle of the Begins. I'm probably going to make these for myself anyway (just to see if I can make it work!), but I would like to know if anybody else would be interested. Let me know please!
Opinions? I know everybody's got one!

Re: Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
Hey Tom,
I think you did a really good job with your latex gauntlets - as you said they aren't completely screen accurate but they are close and do the job well. I know quite a few bros here prefer rubber gauntlets to hard resin so I'm sure you'd have some interested in these.
The only thing I see that you should try to refine in a new version is 1) make the fins more rigid (the ridge that runs up the middle of the small and large fin look curved in the first pic - it may just be the picture itself though) and 2)try and incorporate the left and right gauntlet-specific details (kinda like patrickj did with having a separate master for the left and right arm).
Jason.

Re: Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
Thanks for the input Jason, Paul!
Jason, I will keep your suggestions in mind when I do these. I'm was leaning strongly toward having one mold take care of the left and the right again, mainly for cost reasons---but then again, with two seperate molds I could cast them two at a time. I'll have to think on it!

Re: Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
Tom,
I think comic gaunts would be a winner around here or if you did TDK style (though I hate EVERYTHING about that suit). From what I've seen lately noone really seems to care all that much about the Begins stuff (or anything previous to that) anymore. TDK is the "flavor of the month" and comic style hasn't really been tackled yet so you in a good position there.
Words of wisdom from your Uncle Ed. :wink

Re: Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
I liked the TDK suit immediately after seeing it on film...but the more and more I got into trying to build it I developed a distaste for it. I acknowledge that it was an excellent step in creating suit (I doubt anyone will be able to make a completely accurate fan-made suit) and it made sense for the TDK storyline. But the Begins suit just had heart (my favourite armour of all time so far), and has the best silhouette and emblem going (not to mention that the armour pieces themselves look great).
Tom: your very welcome. I love the begins gauntlets, but as some bros pointed out a comic style begins-style piece could be cool too...
Jason.

Re: Bat Texan Begins-style(and other) gauntlet ideas
No doubt in my mind now, I will be doing a comic-style gauntlet. I still like the Begins gauntlets, so that's still likely to happen. As it happens Ed, somebody else has asked me about TDK-style gauntlets, so I'm gonna do some pictorial research and see what I can come up with.
Thanks guys!

Fan bloody tastic, Tom. I have made my own set from cheap vynil pirate gloves. Whilst they look alright, I would love to get my hands on something that looks like it was made by a Billionare, rather than a hunderaire.
I will keep an eye out here for progress on these. Sorry I can't offer anything in the way of advise, I have no idea about casting and molding, etc. I just know that, after seeing your cowls and other gaunts, these wile be kicka$$.
