Re: ledger
Easily the best likeness I've seen so far.
How long does it take for you to establish a 'likeness' once you start?
Are rakes an essential part of this step,as opposed to other types of tools?
Also, when you go to do the final sculpt, will you manipulate this one to get expression,or start a whole new one, using this for reference?

Re: ledger
am going to cast this one. assuming it is a good likeness, with hair. basically I want this to look like a lifecast of him(have to finish the skin detail). Then I'll pull a hard copy, and add the scars. Then I'll go back to this, change the expression of him without the makeup. The trick I think is to do the Joker without losing him in either the makeup, or expression. So you gotta really understand his face. i.e. what happens when he smiles, how much of his skin really gets rumpled when he frowns etc.

Re: ledger
I am actually. the next set of pics will be with skin texture, and eye area refinement, then the next after that will be with hair, with a twist. then cast it, pull hard copy add scars, go back to the clay sculpt, change the expression, and repeat.
for actually studying the subject, I find that for me, watching a movie or video, of them NOT in character works. You learn more than by looking at still shots. For Bale, I watched 3:10 to Yuma.

Re: ledger
What clay do you use? I think I remember hearing it was an NSP from chavant? Also, what do your armatures look like when you create a human head like this and where do you get your eye forms?

Re: ledger
In this case though Ledger was too healthy looking in all his other (released) movies, we can guess now why he was so gaunt looking. He may have some make up on here but he seems to have aged about 10 years to pre TDK pics.
WHY THE LONG FACE? As The Joker would say.
