Building My Batcave (Updated pics 28 Jan 2017 page 5)

I posted some progress pics of the cave I'm building in another forum here ][sign in to see URL] Since then I have completed the ceiling, painted it black and installed cage guard mesh to resemble a rock fall barrier. I have also installed flood lights similar to the type you'd see in a cave complete with dimmers. Here is a quick pick of the suit in the closet. I'm starting on rocking in the walls tomorrow. Will post more pics soon

Wow man that sounds freakin' awesome. I REALLY like that Begins chest -- is that floor to ceiling? I thought the Begins chests didn't go to the floor (I don't actually know at all) but I like the full-size look there.

So you've got an unfinished basement that you're hooking that up in? When you say "rock the walls" are you talking about sheetrock or something else that actually resembles rock? A batcave in an unfinished basement is pretty much PERFECT.

Always like seeing another Begins closet. Did you mold and cast your own ring pulls or buy all metal ones? And what are your shelf brackets made of?

Ring Pulls are all metal. Big expense. Shelf brackets are wood painted to look like metal. Took a few coats to get the right look to it.

I remember when I bought my metal ring pulls. I think when I was sitting there hand-chiseling all the divots to set them that I first asked myself what in the hell I was doing. emoticon

If you decide you want metal shelves, contact K & K Industries in Washington state < [sign in to see URL] > and send them your specs. They made mine out of steel for about $100 shipped and only took a few days. Mention what you're doing and they might even still have the spec file on hand.

Let me just say that I've been gluing 2" styrofoam sheets to the walls all morning so I can later sculpt them to look like rock. Then I have to contour and paint them. Kill me! It's a lot of bloody [sign in to see URL].

The cabinet looks amazing! Did you make or buy and modify it and what kind of wood is it? Can't wait to see what the cave looks like rocked and finished.

I made the closet. It's not the most accurate one you can find and I did cut some corners to make it easier but it works for my room. Here is the thread.

The closet looks very well build. Nice job. And the cave you are building looks just amazing. I am just renovating the house and I know how much work that is. I can't stand Drywall any more....

Man I wish I had the resources to do this. But on the plus side once my wife and I get a little farther in life she said we can have a house built with the whole hide-away basement behind a bookshelf. Batcave, mancave, whatever you wanna call it.

I wanna see how the rock walls turn out. I am also curious if you're going to add a hard shell over the foam?

The walls are taking awhile as I have to cut and form them myself. I'm as eager as you are to see how they turn out. I've never done this before. I am coating the foam in the Stonewall product from this site. I got a sample kit from them and this product best fits the texture I'm looking for.

All of the foam is now in place and I've begun roughing in the rock forms. I've decided that to carve it will take awhile emoticon But I have a secret [sign in to see URL]'ll post more progress as this moves along.

So are you planning on painting after you add the coating or are you planning on the sculpting giving it all the shading and visual effect your looking for?

I bought a foam cutter a few years ago from a craft store. It was just a wire that was connected to batteries so it would heat up. It cut through the foam like a hot-knife-through-butter emoticon I think it was $6

Haven't updated in awhile, so I thought I would post a recent pic. The panels are all sculpted and coated. I have added the base gray paint. Will begin shading and layering soon.

Sometimes I love finding threads a few pages deep that I haven't seen before. I just got to experience so much homemade batcave awesomeness at once. It's like waiting until a show is done and watching all the seasons together.
That looks amazing. Great work buddy. Happy for ya!
