Thanks for all the responses!nondisclosed_email@example.com (mackle89)Sun, 27 Jun 2010 13:11:07 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205102,from=rss#post2205102https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205102,from=rss#post2205102Latex can be brushed onto a fabric. You can pretty much tint latex (rd-407) to be any color you want. Monstermakers sells a variety of tints. Suggestion though. Try and pour your latex pieces with the same batch of mixed latex. Unless you have an exact recipe each time you may get a difference in color in your latex.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shadowbat69)Sun, 27 Jun 2010 10:16:38 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205097,from=rss#post2205097https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205097,from=rss#post2205097Would this latex work if I was applying it straight onto a fabric? Also, would the plasti-dip paint work for this or would I be better off tinting it. I'm not doing a black I was going for a dark purple, I am doing a Hush costume, the Hush from the Batman Arkham Asylum video game to be exact. In their interpretation of him, he has more of a jumpsuit and I wanted to make it out of latex to add good detail. Thanks!nondisclosed_email@example.com (mackle89)Sun, 27 Jun 2010 02:45:08 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205085,from=rss#post2205085https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205085,from=rss#post2205085MonsterMakers has about the best latex out there IMO. Go to www.monstermakers.com. For armor get their RD-407 and tint it black yourself with either their tint or just use universal tint available at any paint store. If you're making a cowl you would be better off with their "Bat Black" latex (it's a little thinner than the RD-407 and works better in the ears).nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sat, 26 Jun 2010 19:30:43 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205077,from=rss#post2205077https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205077,from=rss#post2205077You guys have been an amazing help thanks! Now onto the next question :) . Where do you guys get your latex, or what brand do you use, I live in the states (MN to be exact). Thanks! nondisclosed_email@example.com (mackle89)Sat, 26 Jun 2010 16:24:07 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205073,from=rss#post2205073https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205073,from=rss#post2205073Quote:mackle89 wrote: So is the plasti-dip a paint in itself? Apply in light even coats (like any other spray paint) then after it dries if you want it to be shiny give it a wipe down with a rag soaked in mineral spirits then before that fully dries lightly coat it again. Should work fine (do it all the time). nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sat, 26 Jun 2010 14:48:30 +0000 Re: painting latex costume helphttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205047,from=rss#post2205047https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205047,from=rss#post2205047So is the plasti-dip a paint in itself? I know you are going to have a great time. As for painting latex, you need a product called plasti-dip. If you are in the States, it is available at Lowes, and most major hardware stores in the spray paint section. It is the best and only thing to use. Rustleum brand paint will crack after a while. PLasti-dip is a liquid rubber, so adheres to the latex better. Just be sure the thing you are painting is latex and not rubber vinyl, as the plasti won't stick to it. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I am very new to working with latex and was wondering how to paint it. As much information and details would be amazingly appreciated.
