I'm sure the fella that did it marked the cowl with chalk or something similar then cut it by handnondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sun, 24 Jan 2021 18:22:17 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2346201,from=rss#post2346201https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2346201,from=rss#post2346201I love that neck guard! I mean, there are several one piece cowls I want to own, but I will always trim them up into two-pieces. Or at least get someone else to do it for me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (aceofknaves88)Mon, 05 Jul 2010 21:11:14 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205777,from=rss#post2205777https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205777,from=rss#post2205777Well here is the side view for those that had asked. As for a tutorial, Ive never given one but here it goes: Step 1 is to put the cowl on and decide where you will cut. A big part of this is to use a fine paint marker or some chalk and mark a line on the back of your head at the base of your skull. Be exact as you dont want to cut it so that the helmet portion is too short. Step 2: After you have the mark on the back, slip the cowl off and using the same marking tool, start at the base line in back and trace a line around the cowl so that it meets the other side of the back line. Make sure you take your time and get it even. Step 3: Using an exacto knife cut an incision in the back of the cowl EXACTLY below the line you had made. Make sure it is big enough to get a pair of scissors into it. Now, using the scissors, trimm the the cowl staying right below the line you have traced untill you have completely trimmed the head from the neck. You want to be elow the line because of sanding later and because you will probably need the neck to be a bit shorter so it does not get "hung up" on the cowl while moving your head. Step 4: Once you have the trimming done, you will want to put the cowl (w/the neck) to see how it lines up. You may want to trimm some more of the neck so that it will fit comfortably. You will only want to take a little at a time so this may take some time. I had to take another inch off of the neck piece of my cowl only taking a centemeter or two off at a time. Step 5: Once you have the cowl and neck lined up the way you like, you will want to sand the edges where the cutting was done. I used a dremmel with a sanding wheel on low setting for mine. This will give it a nice smooth edge so it looks made this way instead of cut up. Again, Take your time and make sure you dont sand it down too much. You only want to smooth it, not take more away. Step 6: You will want to clean the cowl with some warm soapy water (use mild soap) and then, if using a latex cowl, plasti-dip the cowl. This will also help make it look as if it were made a 2-piece instead of cut up. I hope this helps, as I said Ive never given one of these before. I wish I had some "in progress" Pics to help show what Im talking about but I hadnt thought about it at the time. If anyone decides to do this, just take your time and make sure you know where you want to cut. Good luck.nondisclosed_email@example.com (AngelOfDarkness22)Mon, 05 Jul 2010 15:03:05 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205731,from=rss#post2205731https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205731,from=rss#post2205731I've been considering doing this one for a while too, maybe someone would like to commission me :wink :raiseeybrow nondisclosed_email@example.com (pjwares)Mon, 05 Jul 2010 07:31:13 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205716,from=rss#post2205716https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205716,from=rss#post2205716I hear ya shadowbat, once you wear a 2-piece cowl you just cant go back to a 1-piece. Its just too nice to be able to move your head. Thanks for the compliment efarrell. Beetween the cutting and dremmel sanding, it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to finnish so Im glad everyone likes it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (AngelOfDarkness22)Sun, 04 Jul 2010 23:27:45 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205691,from=rss#post2205691https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205691,from=rss#post2205691That's nicely done.nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sun, 04 Jul 2010 16:45:51 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205636,from=rss#post2205636https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205636,from=rss#post2205636Matt and I used to talk all the time about cutting a 89 like this. Just neither of us wanted to do it to our own.lol Now that Ive done it afew times I dont think Ill ever own a single piece cowl. Ill always cut into 2 seperate pieces. If cut right, and wearing a hood underneath, its really hard to tell.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shadowbat69)Sat, 03 Jul 2010 20:50:30 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205598,from=rss#post2205598https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205598,from=rss#post2205598Hey, glad you guys like it. Thats pretty much what I was going for when I trimmed it up. I LOVE the 89 cowl but it is SO hard to move while wearing one. This way you can actually walk around and not look like a zombie with neck issues. I wouldnt want to get rid of it but I am trying to pick up a dead end so...nondisclosed_email@example.com (AngelOfDarkness22)Fri, 02 Jul 2010 23:41:26 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205566,from=rss#post2205566https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205566,from=rss#post2205566now that is bad ass. i dont suppose u have any pics of it while someone is wearing it do ya? that does look really nice. i like how u even trimmed a neck piece that looks keatonish but is functional.nondisclosed_email@example.com (detectivesilfies)Fri, 02 Jul 2010 23:10:12 +0000 Re: neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205562,from=rss#post2205562https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205562,from=rss#post2205562Sure thing. It is a smaller cowl but very smooth with nice curves, less rough than an '89 but still closer than TDK. It looks cool sitting around on one of those cheap styrofoam heads. -Tonynondisclosed_email@example.com (thuth)Fri, 02 Jul 2010 07:00:52 +0000 neckless 89 style cowl?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205468,from=rss#post2205468https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2205468,from=rss#post2205468has anyone here ever made a 89 style cowl that is neckless like the tdk cowl? i know inferno does a neckless cowl that semi resembles keatons cowl but its not close enough. does anyone here know of any or are working on one? nondisclosed_email@example.com (detectivesilfies)Fri, 02 Jul 2010 00:25:39 +0000
