Need Advice on 8 Panel Cape

After searching around & seeing the pictures and commissions on capes,
I'm fairly ready to just get the materials and give it my own shot.

Does anyone have the layout map for 8 panels? saw it once...
now I can't seem to find it.

What fabric do you guys prefer?
Helpful Tips?

I'm 6'3" so i need to make sure it's gonna be long enough, to get fairly close to the ground, but not dragging.
& I wanna make sure I can atleast get near to closing it up the front, when I want to.

if you want to have a good looking cape, You will need pattern to sewn it together. You should use lightweight material (NOT elastic material), depending on the suit from textile, or PVC coated textile. You have to use a closure that you be able to open wearing gloves . Also you may need to prepare it to insert rods. I recommend to cut 16 scallops instead of 8, the Cape will look more cool when hanging down.

That's the same pattern I am using right now with some modifictions. I am following the directions for length -- height minus 6 inches which for me is 5'10" (70) minus 6" for 64". I thought the 46" width was too much and the material I have won't support that width, so I'm going with 39". I'm also starting with just 6 panels.

For material, I'm using black textured pleather from JoAnn Fabric. It's been on sale recently for 50% off. Buy your material in 2 yard segments and follow the pattern. I have cut 4 pieces from 2 of my 2 yard segments so far. They also have material called Alova black distressed caviar which looked really cool for a cape. Not as heavy as pleather, but they ran out and I'm going or more of an '89/Returns look.

Here are a couple of pics, the first showing a 2 yard segment marking off 2 cape sections marked in white chalk.

The second shows 2 of the pleather sections after being cut out.

I'm almost finished my 8 Panel. I followed that pattern and came out with panels that are about 48" across and I'm 5'11". It's BIG. In retrospect I would've done the panels a little narrower, but it's not as bad as I thought it'd be now that it's latexed.
