Bigbat23's Neal Adams inspired costume.

Well bros and sis its time to start on this years suit build. While I was pleased with last years suit, there are some things I wanted to fix. This thread is being started to keep you all updated on my wip. First I thought I'd start with the musle suit. Its not meant to bulk me up so much but is meant to just add some definition. I'm kinda going for the Neal Adams look so keep that in mind and tell me what you think. Okay so the plan for this muscle suit is for it to fit like a tactical vest. I am using headliner foam.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content-- it's about 1/4 inch thick with a fabric backing. I figure it should be easier to attach the foam muscle pieces to foam itself.
This is the front
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
Next I gatherd some courage and started carving
some of the muslces out of 1 inch thick foam. I really
thought this was gonna be hard for me to do but it
turned out to be fairly easy to do. Here is what I've
 done so far.

This is my first experience with carving foam so I'm learning as I go. Now I think I need to get the pieces a bit smoother. I think I rememer reading awhile back to freeze then sand them? Anyone know what grit of sandpaper I should use? Also do I soak them first then fteeze? Well thats all for now.

Looking really good Buddy, keep up the great work. I do believe you get it wet first then freeze. I would use a 220 grit and then finer, I'd be concerned if you when any rougher than 220 as the ice starts to thaw it might want to tear at the foam. Good luck. :up

That is looking great so far. Can you tell me, what is headliner foam, and where did you get it? Also, how did you carve those shapes?

Okay I got a little work done on the chest area.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
I'm happy the way it came out. Just need to freeze and sand now.
Now to answer a few of your questions. Headliner foam is the stuff found on the ceiling on the inside of your car.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
Foam on one side, nylon fabric on the reverse side.I
got it at a fabric store. A bit pricey at $12 bucks a
yard. The white foam I'm carving came from wal-mart.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
It was $17 bucks for a roll. I did use an electric fillet knife to cut out the shapes. But it wouldnt work to carve the shapes so I used these I got from the 99 cent store. I bought 3 pair.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
To get the desired shapes I first cut slow to get the over all shape then go edward scissorhands on it to kind of smooth out the cuts. I hope that helps. Any other questions just ask. Happy to help.

Okay, I got some work done on this thing. After running into a few bumps I think I just about got it. A few things to adjust but thats about it. I'd say I'm about 90% happy with it.

I really like what you have done. I thought about doing something similar, but my fear was that the extra padding would make my less than flat stomach stick out too far. So my thought was to focus on chest and shoulder areas and leave the abdomen alone. But your work looks fantastic. I'm marking this thread for future use! :up

Re: Bigbat23's Suit Upgrades WIP (Utility Belt)

Okay I started on my new utility belt. First off, a BIG THANKS, to Gothams Batman for his awesome find. Without it this build would still be in limbo.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
First I got these Q-tip cases that GB found at Target.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
Then painted with Krylon fuision paint for plastics.
Then I bought these sticker things and painted them.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
Then I bought 5 sets of these markers at the 99 cent store. I found the yellow one took the paint better.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--
This is what they look like all painted up. Still need to mount them to a belt, and figure out my buckle situation.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--.
So what do you guys think so far?

Always partial to the capsule/pocket combo. This has a great comic vibe, especially for the price. Your progress continues to impress. Overall uniform, sleek look.

Did you remove the ink from the markers and glue the covers to the base?
