Any city cops/law enforcement officials on the board?
Sometimes when I write my short stories, I wish I knew a city law enforcement officer or administrator with experience that I could go to as a resource person with little questions. I don't have any friends among local cops, and if I just called up and asked some of the things I'd like to know, they'd wonder if I was a budding terrorist.
"So...what would y'all do if a madman killed the mayor and the city council?" :lol
If any bros here are in law enforcement and wouldn't mind an occasional email question about the sorts of things you might see in Gotham City, please let me know. 'cause I know if you're a Batfan, you "get" where I'm coming from and wouldn't be alarmed the way others might if I asked such questions. Thanks.
Feel free to email me, since this really isn't a discussion topic. Lrcrow (at) att.net

Re: Any city cops/law enforcement officials on the board?
I used to be uniformed, armed private protection for a govt agency that housed high end officials like admirals and generals, not neccesarily a "cop" persay, but the rules are usually the same wherever you go.
Keep in mind that the "immediate" response is to keep all of the "innocents" protected and safe, while pacifying the agressors, or tracking the agressors and then employing manhunt tactics to bring a suspect into custody.
1) starting, would be to immediately close of the location of the problem to any civilian traffic sans emergency vehicles.
2) establish a close as possible perimeter to the scene of the crime so that immediate crime solving agencies can get in and out with ease and to allow the transportation of said officials in and out of the scene.
3) Keep a watchdog mode until we can establish that a) the suspect or threat is in custody or, b) that the suspect or threat has been determined to have left the immediatly "foot-traversible" area of the crime, usually somthing like a football field length area in all directions.
4) Assert protection over the family and close colleages of the person killed.
5) Coordinated with the appropriate level of authority based on the civilian/military rank of the person hurt/killed, such as SS for white house personnel, or FBI for federal officials.
In general, local LEO would be used to perform an investigation while NGOs would be used to establish protective order until a suspect/threat is neutralized.

Thanks. "So...what would y'all do if a madman killed the mayor and the city council?" was just an example to illustrate my dilemma, not an actual question I had, fyi.

Re: Any city cops/law enforcement officials on the board?
Lew,
I'm an Assistant District Attorney in charge of our office major crimes unit, and I've been doing this for a long time. I'm not in a big city, but I'll help out where I can. Not to mention I obviously work with, and have a lot of good friends who are police officers. Shoot me a PM and I can get you my email.
