Silver-Age Batman Jim Aparo - Neal Adams DONE PAGE 3

Thanks to Inkmonkey, I finally can start on my favorite Batman incarnation: 1970s to 1980s Dark Knight Detective.

I received my Neal Adams cowl from the Great North this past Thursday. It is very roomy which is unusual for my 24" plus noggin. I will need to pad it out a bit but it accommodated my mesh eye/motorcycle glasses pleasing well.

Wore the cowl to Barnes and Noble DC Comics day for a first run. It's been a while since I've worn a solid-neck cowl but I'll adapt. Overall, very pleased with this piece. (Had to skip the white eyes for this outing to keep tabs on my junior partner).

Next up to pad out cowl and permanently attach a Panther emblem. Utility belt pods should arrive Monday.

Very nice job sir!

If I may ask, how did you attach the mesh to your motorcycle glasses?

The motorcycle glasses I bought have lenses that pop outward so there's a nice ridge which to superglue the splatter screens.

On the belt front, I think I have a winner for the belt pods. I've cut them so with the caps they are 5" long and the tubes have an outer diameter of 3/4"

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The caps will need to be painted yellow but the pvc body is yellow throughout. Here's the recent thread start by bykrom where I ordered the furniture grade pvc parts.
]Belt Pod Ideas

I've ordered this 3" leather belt so we will know so if it will work. I have a feeling it may need reinforcement. It will need to buckle from the back as I have a resin buckle that I will be modifying this weekend.

Thanks Ed. The space in the cowl is fantastic.

On the subject of exceeding expectation, I received a genuine leather belt in the mail today which should fit the bill perfectly.

Going to complete the belt over the weekend as we're going to do some '70s Batman photos at a local studio Wednesday night.

I'm fairly confident I will match it. We will know by tomorrow night. (On a side note: just passed post 1000! Woo Hoo!)

Finished the buckle tonight. Repurposed resin buckle from a trade; trimmed it down and framed it with styrene sheeting.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The basic layout of the belt with the pods. Need to hit the pod caps with a darker yellow and secure all the pieces tomorrow with screws.

Thanks Friend. I've watched the best Neal Adams Batman build his own. emoticon

The only change I am debating is whether the capsules are too far apart. Right now they are 4 inches on center. I have another set of six so I could put them 2 inches apart, which might be overkill. 3 inches apart might be more in line with this schematic.

Closer pods might look a bit like this Mike Mignola drawing.

Out of curiosity, I mocked up the 12 capsules. Out the fence, but leaning to putting them all on.

Just my opinion, but I think 12 is too many. It looks like a yellow bandolier. I'd go with 9, as in the drawing.

Re: Silver-Age Batman Jim Aparo - Neal Adams Suited Up

I ended up leaving the utility belt with the six visible pods and painted my boots and gauntlets blue. The chest emblem is a disassembled Panther that I repainted to the comic book look.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

So tonight I went to a studio called Reality Reimagined that is just venturing into costume photography. I suited up as the silver-age Dark Knight Detective and as Commissioner James Gordon.

I dragged in the Batsignal as well. The first photoshops should be out in a couple weeks. We plan to do an actual roof top shoot later this fall.

Thanks Floyd! They work really well with Inkmonkey's cowl, especially the furrowed brow. They limit expression some from photo to photo but overall think they get the comic look across.
