Gluing me 89 to spandex

Gluing me 89 to spandex Any tips? Not going well, wife wants to kill me. Using gorilla super glue gel and tried super glue. Thighs won't stay glued and now have to sand the old glue off. Tips? Tricks?

Thank you so much!

Maybe try contact cement.

Re: Gluing me 89 to spandex

It's very tricky, gluing armor to regular spandex suits. If the spandex suit was coated with something like a matte stretch vinyl, then gluing would be fairly easy.

My first armor was made of urethane rubber and I glued it to a regular spandex suit with Loctite rubber toughened super glue gel. I used up about 4 or 5 bottles which was pretty expensive.

The thing is, I wasn't wearing it when I was gluing it on. I carefully stuffed my spandex suit with random fabric, bags, things I didn't need like old cushions and what not. That worked out "ok". Not perfect, but the armor held on fairly well.

Then, later down the line, I bought a mannequin for about one hundred and twenty dollars and that made gluing up a whole lot easier. Since the armor and spandex suit aren't disturbed by your movements, the glue can cure to maximum strength over night. Depending on the super glue you use, you may want to wait at least 48 hours.

But if your only means of mounting the armor on is with you wearing [sign in to see URL]... that may be a bit of a challenge as you already faced it.

For the [sign in to see URL] best bet is to get a mannequin that is the closest to your height and mount it on that. It's well worth the investment and saves you a tedious process.

For now... I would suggest (if you have to wear it when gluing it on) to wear something over your skin that is as skin tight as possible (to protect you from the glue that will more than likely seep through the spandex and also keep any sweating away from the gluing process) and make sure that the room you're in is cool and with the least amount of humidity. Cyano glues tends to be very weak when working in a high humid and hot or even warm environment.

Rub alcohol all around the edges of your armor (the areas where it's going to be glued) and actually sand it down a bit prior to that. I use a dremmel, but medium grit sand paper is good too. You want to promote as much adhesion as possible.

This can work the same way with latex. For your leg armor... if it's possible, I'd really suggest you find a way to mount it without you wearing it. You would have to stand there for a very long time without moving just so the glue can cure well enough to remove the suit without the armor peeling right back off again.

Hope this helps. Lots of luck bud. :up

Maybe try making a duct tape dummy. Cheaper than a mannequin and it has your body shape.

There you go! I knew I was forgetting something. I've seen a few duct tape dummies in the past and they look like they might get the job done. I've never tried it but wish I knew about it years ago.
