Sonar Build Progress. Added Cape Clips

Hey everybody. With huge thanks to Uncle Ed, Jamie, and Jedi Magnum.. I was able to get my hands on a suit I've wanted since 1996.

Sans cape clips, might add those later.

Pumped to mount tomorrow when my Spandexman undersuit comes in.

Thankfully, Ed already had the boobs filled in with foam so my unable self wouldn't be attempting that procedure on my own haha. But, before I mount, can anybody gimme an idea to fill in the delt area to keep it from dimpling? Here's an arrow to what I'm talking about:

Upholstery foam. You can get a roll of it at Wal-Mart UN the fabric section. Nice stuff btw. Good luck!

I've always liked the sonar suit, looking forward to seeing you complete it. Do you have the cowl, gloves, cape, etc?

I have Gotham 100 boots, [sign in to see URL] Returns gloves (I started out make a Returns suit, but Ill just replace the fins with the Razor fins Ed sent), and an Artsee Returns cowl. Im probably going to trim it down to work, but I also have the Sonar cowl -and belt- ordered through Jamie.

The cape is a WIP. My grandma wanted to help, and shes a killer dress maker, so shes putting a bunch of pleather panels together for me. I asked to use her sewing machine but she insisted on doing it haha. Shes awesome. That should be finished this weekend.

So everythings almost ready!

Starting to shape up!

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

I decided to trim my Artsee cowl and I think it'll look kinda cool with the armor. I'll switch back and forth between it and the Sonar cowl. Doesnt hurt to change things up I suppose.

BTW, what do you guys like to use to pin the cowl to your cape/armor? Or do you forgo connecting it altogether?

Looks great! You look super buff in that last pic emoticon

I use industrial Velcro to hold the cowl down, works well and has a super thin closure.

Haha yea. Maybe a little too buff. Im worried that I might have gotten a bit heavy handed with the padding. Hopefully it'll look less Hulk-ish once it's fully attached in the back and sitting right with the cape in front.

I'll have to try the industrial velcro.

Got in my fancy new Sonar cowl from Jamie

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

He also knocked it out of the park on a custom-color belt. Once I finally get the stupid legs mounted I'll show you guys the belt.

Here's a question I would like some thoughts on: Functioning cape clips (screen-accurate) or an 8-panel under-the-cowl cape? I'm leaning towards an 8-panel but would like to hear your opinions.

It's looking great, I love the cowl. I do like the accurate cape clips look, is the other way easier? Or I'm curious to know why you're leaning the other way? I'm sure that either way it'll look great!

I'm thinking about an 8-panel for a few reasons. Mainly because would cover a few flaws in the shoulders and the biceps. But now I'm also nervous about screwing up installing the clips to the armor lol.

I think I'm starting to convince myself. I've just never seen a Sonar with an 8-panel so I don't really know how it'll turnout.

That's a good idea, now I'm curious to see how the 8 panel will look too. Either way the sonar suit is pretty rad!

It's coming along nicely. Finally got the cod piece attached and was able to see how the belt Jamie made for me would look. It looks incredible imo. I got in my latex from Monstermakers and I'll be finishing up my cape next Monday. I decided to stop at 6 panels lol, 8 just seemed a little much with this suit. Idk.

Now to mount the legs and cape clips..

Thanks a lot! I just got done rolling the second coat of latex on the cape. I'm hoping to have that beast done this weekend. I've gotta say, it's been a lot of fun putting this thing together.

Thanks a lot guys. I couldn't have done it without you, Jamie! I can't wait to work out all the fine details and post the finished product.

I finally have a day off from work so hopefully I can convince my better half to help with the last bits of it lol. Poor girl is getting sick of this 3-month project haha. I owe her big for Christmas.

Looks great. I'm glad that armor went to a good home. If you don't already have them I can hook you up with cape clips, rocket heels (for the boots) and toe tips (for the boots). Just shoot me an email when you get a chance.

Thanks everybody! I'm really glad I found this community. I think I may be hooked now, I'm probably still going to put together a Returns suit in the near future.

Thanks, Ed. I'll shoot you an email. I actually have cape clips that Jamie sent me, I managed to convert them to a functioning set but never got around to putting them on. I was on a time crunch before Halloween and haven't gotten to doing some touch ups yet.

Good news is I won the company costume contest! Haha, I have a photographer lined up who has agreed to do a shoot for me if I make an appearance to her kid's b-day. I'll be posting those once we get it done.
